Very nice Ray. The polymerized tung oil finish was a good choice. There is a difference between the walnut oils. You may have to look very carefully, but the salad dressing stuff needs to be refrigerated once it has been opened. In other words, it goes rancid. It can also cause people with tree nut allergies to have reactions. The oil you get at the turning store has been heated to kill the enzymes that cause allergies. It also causes to oil to be stable, it doesn’t go bad. So, that’s the reason for the price difference.

Thanks Doug I really appreciate and value your feedback. The allergy thing is sobhard tobdeal with, I mean half the woods we deal with are nut trees like oak, hickory, walnut and pecan. I've read that Mahoneys and Dr woodshop filters the proteins that trigger reactions. Tung oil is derived from a nut too, now I know the polymerized stuff is treated but i don't know about the various 100% pure varieties out there. I guess I hope or assume anyone with severe nut allergies would just stay away from hardwood products? So with this oil I use i sand with at high rpms 1000 or so generating heat, I then burnish it in with a paper towel at as high a rpm as safe and really cook the oil in, this is also removing the slurry prior to abrasive paste. I've kept the jug of oil in my garage forba year now but will keep an eye on it for it going rancid. Thanks buddy.

How are you liking the Rikon lathe? It's on sale this month at Woodcraft and I'm just about to pull the trigger

It's a good machine! I'm fixing to do a full 1 yr review here in November. I don't have a lot to compare to, my first and only other lathe being a Harbor Freight 12x36. Great machine though and quite the upgrade. My only complaint is the optional legs, way to flimsy for a guy who is always trying to max out his lathe with large and uneven pieces. Other than that it's good to go!
