Hi Ed, great hammer. I like the design and the way you made it. I was interested to see your nail gun does the same trick as mine, which is a similar make. Mine also won't fire the nails out sometimes. I found if i spray a little solvent in the head let it dry then use Graphite power on it then works fine. Thanks Les.

Nice end result, Ed. I have a tip for you that may be of interest to you or to your viewers. RE: Securing the handle with wedges... Prior to cutting the kerfs that will take the wedges, drill an 1/8" hole where each kerf will stop. Now, when you drive in the wedges, any stress that might travel down the grain will be relieved by the 1/8" drill hole. Guaranteed!! WARNIING: When you cut the kerf, only cut into the 1/8" hole but do not nick the opposite side of the hole. That nick would encourage the stress to jump the gap and the advantage of the hole would be lost. Btw, I'm interested to know if any of the Paduak mallets are still available. Cheers and blessings to you and your channel viewers. e.k.

When dealing with oily woods, it's a good idea to use Tannin, if I'm saying that right. Now, I'm no expert, just seen it show up in some videos, not sure of the process, or the intricacies involved, but it's something I will try to keep in mind and research more when I get to using these types of woods. Great job on this build, much gratitude for you sharing this with us.

Love this mallet design and construction. Thank you for taking the time to make the video. The audio and video qualities are very high. Just got subscribed based on this video alone. Now I need to dive into your content a bit more. The only critique I have is the background music may be a touch too loud. This is only my opinion, so there's that! Great work, great design, and well done video. Just for completeness, "hammertime"! I do love padauk and I don't have any of it. I do have walnut I could pair with maybe acacia, hickory, ash or the ever popular maple. I even have some poplar, but for a mallet head that's maybe not the best choice! Suffice to say you have inspired me to at least have a go at making a nice woodworking mallet.
