Listening to Woody Allen play jazz brightens up my day. I love how he plays the clarinet with such passion and a sense of humor.

Notice that he is playing an old-style Albert-system clarinet to play old style music. The same kind that klezmers and Greek musicians use.

You know the one thing I don't get- Woody seems so relaxed; I mean he genuinely seemed to enjoy being in front of an audience, and he's such a great guest. I wonder why he just gave up this part of his life. The standup, the interviews, basically the tv appearances. I know the stock answer...he "outgrew" it, wanted to be taken more seriously as a filmaker, etc. It's just a shame he couldn't mix the two. The last time I saw him on tv doing jokes was at the Oscars about 6 years ago; He killed!

Well, we were all set to make a new and revamped version of Fry and Laurie. I, though, was going to replace Laurie, and the programme was jokingly going to be named Fry and Fry (My surname is also Fry). We filmed the first episode for the pilot, and then the bastard had me replaced for Hugh Laurie.

That joke went out to the folks who were in "Band" - double-entendre intended. You see, you actually use clarinet cork grease "Kork-eez" on the corked-end clarinet pieces to make them insert easily into one another. Are you getting the hint yet? You can't be that 'Green'!?

While he is a good actor and a great filmmaker, Woody Allen is not a great clarinet player. He plays fairly well, but with poor tone.
