I've owned a sealed vinyl pressing of this recording for several years. Today I opened it up and am settled in to take a listen to it finally. Wow. Historic.

Raw talent, he lived in the bleakest times but showed through his music how people stood shoulder to shoulder to overcome the conditions.

When he went to work for the Bonneville Power Administration in 1941 (I think it was), and was hired to write all those songs about the Columbia River, my Mother was the head secretary at BPA and was the one who fingerprinted him.

@Dulcimerea You are more than welcome! I'm only 28 so Woody is reaching the younger generation. One of my all-time favorites, such an amazing storyteller. The LoC recordings are great, love the convos between him and Lomax.

Lol funny, I was looking for "hard times in the mill" from the Volvo commercial and thought this might be it, but definitely wrong. Learned that is the name of the song. Sounds like it coulda been this singer's voice though. Anyway, thx for the upload, I guess lol

Thanks for this. I haven't heard this recording in many many years. I remember that the Wody guthr Library of Congress recordings have a lot of songs and a lot of conversation between Alan and Woody which is very entertaining. Shame that these great american folk recordings are so little-known today.

How could we support the artist by buying? Woody Guthrie died in 1967...

A white guy singing about hard times... kinda laughable, but I get it, I guess.

Believe me. Woody Guthrie had many times of hardship. And he played many time with black people.

Yeah it must have been his white privilege when he was starving. Because white people don't know anything about hard times.
