Here are some commercials taken from a "Million Dollar Movie" on WOR channel 9, broadcasting from Secaucus, New Jersey, serving the New York City tri-state area. These aired going into Labor Day weekend, September of 1984.
The video begins with an MDM slide, with station announcer Ted Mallie giving that evening's movie title (1965's "The Glory Guys"). After that:
--Nickelodeon rolling out their NickMania promotion, with a very different kind of line-up than today (but with plenty of slime, of course);
--Crystal Hot Sauce;
--another MDM slide, without VO;
--Uncle Art's Redi-Cut Carpet, holiday sale, twelve stores in the metro area, with music that suggests they think this sale is a big deal (Slogan: "Like having an uncle in the carpet business");
--409 cleaning spray. Normally I'd avoid uploading dull household product ads like this, but this one was customized for the local audience, portraying women from Manhattan, Passaic (NJ), and Westbury (Long Island), with the accents to prove it;
--a promo for a rerun of the Pat Robertson (700 Club) special called "Don't Ask Me, Ask God," featuring Michael J. Fox, Norman Fell, Vincent Price, Ben Vereen, Steve Allen, plus many others (not even to mention Alvin Toffler and Mother Teresa!);
--Mr. Good Buys windows;
--Coleco's Adam home computer system-750 bucks, TV not included-told us not to be afraid of buying a home computer, but be very afraid of your kids being the dumbest in their class because you didn’t buy them a home computer;
--finally, another silent slide.
No rights held or implied. (If you'd like this video removed for copyright reasons, please contact me rather than notifying KZitem, I will gladly take it down from this channel.) This is on compilation 33 at oldtvads.blogspot.com...
