Kysha Cruz hi Kysha Cruz. The key words at the start of this video cover multiplicatiin and division. addition words are similar to multiplication ones with the exception that you have the same fraction being added repeatedly. Subtraction words include words that end with "er" , such as "how much furthER did he go? how much TallER is it? in which case you would subtract the 2 fractions. Other subtraction words and statements include....how much more_____ is there? .....how much less ______ is there?....what is the difference? i hope that helps. i wish u well on ur exam. let me know in advance if ud like me to make u a specific video on a topic.

Rahmam Ajala Hey Rahmam. when 2 fractions are being divided, the rule is that u must keep the first fraction the way it is, then change the division symbol into a multiplication symbol and then flip the 2nd fraction. The number of half-pound packages of tea that can be weighted out of a box that holds 10 1/2 lb of tea is: a) 21, b) 20 1/2, c) 11, d) 10 1/2 ___________________________________________________ Sir, my question is that how can we figure out what to do with above statement. Whether divide or multiply? In the solution book they have divided it but if I'm not wrong then you taught us that when "of" comes then multiply. Please illustrate this.
@ramymelhem
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Arslan. Think of it this way. If I asked you how many 2 pound packages you can count from a pack that weights 14 pounds, you would say the answer is 7 packages. Why? ..because 14 div 2 = 7. In other words 7 of the 2 pound bags would make 14 pounds. Let's apply this logic to your question: If the total package weighs 10 1/2 pounds and there are 1/2 packets inside then you should do 10 1/2 div 1/2. The Answer will be 21.
@ramymelhem
7 жыл бұрын
Yes, the word 'of' does indeed mean multiply, but only if it is between 2 other values. For example 1/2 of 36 would mean 1/2 x 36. Notice how there are numbers on each side of the 'of' statement. In the word problem that you wrote above, that condition is not met.

What you did is correct but it is incomplete. 157/6 is still an improper fraction that needs to be converted into a mixed fraction. You know that you are done when the top number is smaller than the bottom number. The final answer to your fraction should be 246 1/6

in another web says ,"how many more "means adding
@ramymelhem
8 жыл бұрын
+saul parraga Hi Saul Parraga. "How many more" can mean "addition" if you were to use logic (Ex. If I have $3 and you have $5) If I were to say How many more dollars do you have, logic would dictate that you could "ADD" $2 to $3 and so that is how much more you have. Mathematically speaking, to solve for "How many more" type of word problems, you would always have to subtract the two numbers. ie. $5 - $3 = $2 Hence, you have $2 more than me. I hope that helps. With Best Wishes.

@ramymelhem
7 жыл бұрын
Potter Head thanks for the nice comment. the reason that 50.32 becomes 50 32/100 is because u have to think back to decimal place value. the first number to the right of the decimal is called the "Tenths" whereas the second number to the right of the decimal is called the "Hundredths". since there are only 2 numbers to the right of the decimal, u say 32/100. if it was 50.3, u would say 50 3/10. if it was 50.324, then u could say 50 324/1000. I hope that helps.

We have a different word problem. How do we do this??? Maria and Farida had 250 beads altogether. After Maria used 18 beads to make a bracelet and Farida gave away 2/5 of her beads, they have the same number of beads left. How many beads did Maria have at first?

Jill Sergeant, im so sorry for not reading this comment. One of my subscribers above notified me of the math problem that you have suggested. I hope you managed to find the solution to it. Regardless, I will make a short video explanation on this math problem sometime today or tomorrow. With best wishes.

did u know 5÷100 =20 and if it was five people each would get 20 coins to spend at chucky cheese or anything else like money you would all get 20 dollars each if u put it that way and 100% of the money would be 100 cause 5×20=100

Slight correction: 100 ÷ 5 = 20 .....the equation that you wrote would mean that you are splitting $5 into 100 parts. Doing so would make an answer of 0.05. Otherwise, I admire your ability to create context out of a math problem. Great use of Percentages as well! :)

@@ramymelhem what does “64 plus 19 more” means? 844 + 100 = 944, 944 + 10 = 954 + 9 = 963 So that means 844 + 100 + 19 (10 + 9) = 963 Please explain how you were doing it and check if I’m correct.

@@ramymelhem How did you skip count it because I’m being confuse with “64 + 19 more” because I don’t know where “plus 19 more” came from when you skip count. Can you fully explain how you skip count 844 to 963 because I would use this method to convert big improper fractions to mixed numbers.
That just means you need to understand math dialect. It takes time but with enough exposure you will pick out the clue words and terms that I highlighted in the video. Let me know if you have any specific word problems that you'd like me to make a video on.
