In this Chemistry video in Hindi for Class 11 we derived the equation for the work done in an isothermal expansion in thermodynamics.
When a system applies pressure P and due to that pressure volume increases by an infinitesimal amount dV, then the work done by the system is equal to PdV. With the use of ideal gas equation (PV = nRT) and using integration it can be found that work done by a thermodynamic system in an isothermal expansion is nRT ln(Vf/Vi). Here, Vf and Vi are the final and initial volume respectively.
