I started working at 14yo and my dad would only pay my sister for working at the restaurant. In high school I worked 3-4 jobs as well as going to school in case I would be homeless. It was hell. Decades later, I've never been unemployed, but that crazy fear we had to do when I was a child has put a toll on my body. The relationship with my dad has broken, he always asked for more, and took all our money. I had to work to buy my own school lunch.

Feel bad for the son.. he'd do better on his own. Work a job with proper pay.. he can afford to rent room/studio.. he can get good rest.. proper off day.. far from abusive and toxic father.. but he probably don't want to leave his mom alone..

Red flags have been ignored. Looking at how he reacts and responds, there's no way he's gonna change. This may sound harsh but I do hope that the wife found the courage to get out of such a toxic marriage and relationship for her sake and her children's. I was touched by what she said... "People work to have a better life, no one lives to work." We all work, yes. But we do that not only to survive but to actually live.

But , if i wnt to holiday.i can ask for it Or if i sick i can leave and rest at home. If there is something urgent or we got wedding invitation from our relatives. My dad is workaholic too. He owns a small coffee shop and a clothing store. He make me work at his clothing store after school, 7 days a week without day off too! But the thing is he paid me well, more than his reguler employee and even when i need extra money to buy something, i ask him and he would gladly give me. He also gave me a credit card under his name so i can buy school supplies, buy meals or just going on vacation. He always tell me to work hard, cause he came from a poor family background to the point he couldnt even finished his high school due to financial problem. Fortunately, we live a comfortable life now, thanks to my dad's hard work. Its quite different story with this man, dude only cares about work work and work, nothing else, even when his family is suffering to death.

Reasons why divorce should be normalised in asian culture. My parents took 26 years to get a divorce from their arranged marriage bc they were scared no one would want to marry the child of a ‘broken’ family and bc of the shame of it they stayed married all that time. Instead they slept in different rooms, argued all the time, had affairs, and it was a super toxic environment for us kids too.

i can relate this, my mom is workaholic, she didnt even take a break in public holiday and force me to work on her shop too after my graduation, but i rebel smoothly because i know she hate being poor because of her past, i just didn't want to hurt her, so i just being lazy at work (thank god my mom isn't abusive). Then she offer to pay me if i work more dilligent, but no, i won't accept it. I'll keep tell her everyday that i want to work on my passion, not being a shop keeper, even if that can makes me richer. note: we have 3 employee, but she never trust them, thats why she makes me work for her.

I actually feel bad for him. I think he hasn't overcome the traumas he faced in his adolescence years. He still has that 'survival' mindset. It's time for him to let go and be happy, that harsh part of his life is gone for good.

His wife and Son are mentally and physically exhausted his son looks terrified sat next to him. How could he say that about his own granddaughter, instead of being a proud happy grandfather who would close his restaurant and go celebrate with his family he chose to wait until she visits him!! Where is the Love and respect for his wife and kids, and to also be abusive to his son is heart 💔 breaking. To have no family photos and happy memories all because of his attitude. I would love to know if he kept his word about closing for 1 day a week...and I wonder how his wife and son are today...

It doesn't look like his going to change. I mean, it's like he said that just to avoid the situation. And it's surprising how he didn't felt no empathy for his family.
