That's a shame, I love the people who work at the USPS. Even today with modern internet and everything else the USPS is the backbone of this nations critical communication infrastructure. It's also a public service so important it was rightfully allowed to be a monopoly (although I personally wouldn't mind seeing some tax dollars go into the USPS). It's horrible what Congress did to the USPS forcing them to be the only company or department of government to have to pay for the FULL retirement up front. Looking at the timing it seems like Post Master Douchebag DeJoy was in charge when this all started. I'm not going to pretend to know all the politics of the USPS and all that but I hate Louis DeJoy, dismantling sorting machines just to force them out of use.

used to be a similar problem with VA benefit claims - the process to accept a claim from someone other than the veteran, due to incapacity or disability, used to require a whole process, including signed witness statements. Now the new forms allow signature by someone else due to disability/incapacity in a separate section, so it removed most of the hassle. The federal government, in its over-zealous efforts to both protect privacy and protect taxpayer money from fraud, makes it very difficult to get through the system.

Welcome to working for the government, especially the postal service. I know a few people who spent most of their lives in these jobs, and the misery put on them, intentionally to drive people out early, is disgusting. Many don't run into it so bad, but even just trying to get started, and all the fear of losing the job over nothing is insane. One friend who did 35+ years in the post office, after being put on restricted work due to back injuries from heavy lifting was endlessly put into the worst and heaviest work the place had, just to drive him out early, but he kept up for his last few years to full retirement. My stepmom was a school librarian for many years, and towards the end the system did all they could to drive her out, using her treatable diabetes as an excuse to push her out early so she didn't get full retirement pay. She loved that place and the kids, and losing it all broke her heart which I feel was a big part of why she died shortly after. All of her friends from the school just cut off talking to her after, she felt she lost everything. I'm so glad I never even tried for a government job.

The idiots at Immigration and Naturalization sent my Mom her "green card" renewal form. She's been here since 1963 after marrying an American stationed in France. They wanted her fingerprints for the renewal, she was 75. The Immigration and Naturalization people in Chatsworth, CA I believe didn't like me because when they said deport I flipped my wig, pfft over my cold fead body. Sheriff's Department took her fingerprints and submitted them honestly telling us they wouldn't be accepted. Visually she has fingerprints but to the touch they aren't there. Rolled on ink. Rolled on glass roller, placed flat on glass, none of it worked. I took her to the FBI building in Westwood, Los Angeles and they couldn't get her fingerprints. They had her fingerprints and pictures from 1963 forward and they wouldn't budge, they were ready to deport her. Then Covid hit and everything ground to a stop. My sister had to take my Mom from Salem, Oregon to San Francisco to some immigration building and their fingerprint person couldn't get them either. The LASD and the FBI both verified her identity from previous documentation in other matters, nope, not good enough. That fingerprint man, looked at her expired green card and held it up for a side by side comparison and says to my sister I'll go ahead and verify her ID with her old card. My sister's pulse went through the roof, she was so thankful it was her standing there and not me, she knew I would have lost control. I would have woke up that day and chosen violence. From Los Angeles to Salem and San Francisco, these asshats have no idea what they put us through and how expensive it was to save our Mom. My older sister was born in France but the middle and me the baby were born in America. Deportation was the only language they knew. We the People are losing our power to bureaucrats. Thank God that our Supreme Court overturned Chevron so that our courts freely and fairly without favor interpret the law and not agencies that undermine We the People. This stuff is real and it's NOT uncommon it's every day. Thought you should know another branch is discriminatory as well. Guess the Administration that finally got my Mom's green card renewed, yep, that one. Never ever give up. I love both of your spirits and attitude, you just want to go live your life.
