Workers Play a Thrilling Game With Hammer and Nail
At a construction firm’s staff party in Quebec, coworkers and family members played a round of “hammerschlagen,” a game in which teams compete to hammer a nail into wood.
Valerie Jalbert, who captured the video, said that several of her and her husband’s colleagues who work in construction like playing it regularly.
In the weirdly exciting video, tension rises as men work in two teams and sprint as if competing in a relay race to hammer a nail into a long piece of wood as quickly as they can - with quite a few misses.
Jalbert explained to Storyful, “It was a staff party in Quebec; we do it for pleasure.”
The game of hammerschlagen, which involves driving nails into tree stumps for amusement, is frequently related to Oktoberfest, beer, and German ancestry. Play continues until one player has pounded their nailhead into (or below) the wood’s surface.
The original post on TikTok has gained a lot of attention, and at the time of writing, had amassed over 1.4 million likes.
