Yup, I love night racing myself, but know many that do not as much. Amber polarized glasses or shield will solve that glare. Long wheel based digger makes it worse. As you are a lot further back from the bulbs than I in a short wheelbase class car.

Get a second set of driving glasses PRESCRIBED for night use. It will cut out the light streaks and it will lighten up your field of view. You may not need glasses during the day, but it sounds like you need them at night. I have a set prescribed which are devoted just for night vision.

I know its a year late, but use some amber face shields. It almost completely cuts out glare in both day and night conditions. I use them fishing and i can see deep into the water on a sunny day with zero glare off the water.

Even when l needed glasses to see street signs, etc but could still see well enough to go down the track and through the pits without hitting pot holes etc ( lol) l just kept the glasses off and could hit the tree the same night or day without touching the box. Once my vision got worse and l had to wear glasses to see the pot holes, l went to contacts. No glare and right back to same tree night and day. Also... I don't breathe. I don't take a breath or let out a breath. I just stop breathing. Works wonders for me. Love your videos btw. Thanks for posting them

Amber visors help me with glare. I also race with glasses on and that seems to help with a blue light filter too. Nice driving Tom!

I’d have to agree here, used to use a smoked shield started using an amber shield and flipping it down right after pre stage. Dims around the bulb from that excessive flash and keep a good visibility especially at night racing it makes a world of difference

Great information in this video! Now that we have made the switch to a dragster and it’s much faster than anything we previously owned, with a delay box, we are learning a whole new world of racing. A lot has changed in the 14 years we were away from the sport! I like your videos for the fact that it shows everybody all the “secrets” and how you approach what you do at the finish line. Awesome Job, Tom!! I’d like to see more of that kinda stuff!

This doesn’t help much on going to tracks you don’t frequent regularly…. But most of our local tracks have put in a flood light shining up at the tree after racers requested it. Mostly for bottom bulb racers trying to find the third amber who block the tree, but it takes away all the glare from the bulbs.
@talbotracing1

I think being able to see the tree at night is an ability that makes really good racers even better. I mostly bottom bulb and my home track has really bright stage bulbs and the tree is not well lite. A tinted visor has helped but it's not great.

Gotcha gotcha.. there’s just so much glare that it kinda “wraps around” and I can’t even see the bulb. It’s like staring at nothing. Not trying to make excuses, just really having trouble with it! Some guys seem to have it figured out tho! They still cut great lights at night!

Once you are staged. Can you tilt your head down to block out the stage lights? Only focusing on the top yellow??
@GallStarTV
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I hear ya.. that could help for sure. For some reason this night the glare was just so bad that the glare would kind of wrap around everything and block out the bulb.. if that makes sense. I don’t know how some of these guys still cut such great lights at night!!!

I hit the tree day and night with a polarized lens. I've got a polarized visor for my helmet, but that company is out of business. The polarized lens reduces the glare and can really sharpen up the bulbs in those circumstances, especially if you have astigmatism. Message me and I'll show you what I've done with my set up.
