I work for a big four firm, all the cons are very true. I work in audit, zero work life balance. Very stressful at times. But you need that Big 4 name on your CV, so be strong and see it through, but if your health becomes compromised, then take the appropriate action that maintains your well being. I know people who developed health issues because of being workaholics. Sometimes I even forget to eat when working on a deadline client. So be prepared for this, but yes a big four name opens doors for you.

Hi! I came across your video and really enjoyed watching it. I would like to ask your opinion on my situation. You mentioned that using the consultant career, it is generally easier to jump up to a specific industry ( by secondment). I got an offer from one of the big 4, strategy department, but I am not from the finance/business background, and eventually thinking about changing to a specific field (not business/finance either) that I’m interested in. Do you think that experience as a consultant still would be a good stepping stone for me? My original thought was that the experience would train me for logical thinking and building strategies, which is essential to my field. Thank you very much in advance!

Thanks for the video. Quick question if the pay is lower than industry, there are longer working hours and you can easily get a industry job(with a much better pay and work life balance) after 3 years of working with big 4,why would anyone stay long enough to be a director or partner. Can't believe its only diversity of projects?
@successbysanjna
3 жыл бұрын
hahaha very interesting and I totally agree with you! It just really depends what you prefer, alot of people just stay at the Big 4 for the name and the potential to make partner - it's usually those people who have had a life long dream of working up the corporate ladder at a multinational firm. If you ask me, I think it's really not my cup of tea - you can progress so much quicker by leaving after a few years, but each to their own :)

Hey Sanjna thanks for the video, I’m just starting at another big4 this week (senior consultant) and cannot wait. Got 2 pressing questions, if that’s okay to ask! 🙌 - how many hours / week were you receiving training? - how flexible were you at KPGM to work on international projects, potentially for 6 to 12 months, perhaps in a different continent ?
@successbysanjna
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick! Oh congrats on the new role - how exciting! So when I first started, I believe there wasn't much training - max 2 weeks in my opinion and the rest is all on the job training. In terms of international projects, it was rare and not everyone had the chance to go - usually those who had more experience etc. I also think given we're in Covid, there aren't many prospects for international travel for projects, as this can potentially be done by working from home. But what I do think is possible, is if you're interested in perhaps a secondment opportunity, you many be able to transfer for the 6-12 month period, but you'll need to speak with HR or your team to get a better indication. I hope that helps! Any further questions - happy for you to email me :)

Hi mam..very interesting video..I'm.excited to get into one of the big4's within a week ...I'm entering into a contract role? Is there any chance of making me permanent by them? What should I do to get permanent?
@AruSharma04
3 жыл бұрын
Highly unlikely. Sorry man, I can't lie to you. There's 2 kind of contracts - Third Party and on-payroll (time bound) contracts. They usually don't renew those contracts. They let them expire and call you back at the same rates instead of making you permanent or giving you a hike etc. Contracts are a cost cutting measure. Source - I was contract at a big 4 (on payroll, time bound) and now am full time at another big 4. The Big 4 don't care about people, it's about revenue. They'll do what's cheaper. Contracts are used (instead of full time roles) when the project is temporary, or when the billable rates are too low. So the moment you are slightly less redundant, you're out.
