The World Bhangra Council proudly presents ‘WORLD BHANGRA DAY
taking place on 13th April 2018.
So what’s the idea behind this day? Academic and author of ‘Bhangra - Mystics, Music & Migration’, Hardeep Singh Sahota has been performing Bhangra workshops around the UK with choreography based on Ustad Pammi Bai’s research on how Bhangra would have been experienced decades ago by our forefathers. Hardeep’s vision is to share this routine with like-minded practitioners and performers around the world and then perform this routine at the same time across the globe, together in unison. He began to develop this idea over five years ago during his Masters-by-Research Degree and then putting together the first ever World Bhangra Day event.
This is your chance to join in, by learning this routine which was choreographed by Pammi Bai and performed and produced by renowned artists form the great Punjabi University Patiala. Share it with friends, family and as many people as possible over the coming months. Around the auspicious time of Vaisakhi 2018, we will all come together in our own communities and perform the routine along with others around the world, sharing our experience through new digital technologies.
During this years World Bhangra Day celebrations, we are sharing the choreography with everyone and we also invite you to Tweet;
#WorldBhangraDay at exactly 2PM (GMT -UK time) on the 13th April 2018, so set your alarms to Tweet and lets get it trending!
This event will celebrate our rich cultural heritage and as always your thoughts and ideas on how we can raise the awareness of Bhangra globally are warmly welcomed.
Yours sincerely,
Hardeep Singh Sahota - BA (Hons), PGCE, MA (Res)
