Considered by many to be the most famous violin in the world, Niccolò Paganini's "Il Cannone" violin visited Columbus, Ohio, in May 2019 for the first time in its history. Part of a cultural exchange between Genoa, Italy, and Greater Columbus Sister Cities International, the 276-year-old violin was on display at the Columbus Museum of Art for one week only. Violinist Joanna Frankel performed on the instrument during a special concert with the Columbus Symphony. The violin was constructed in 1743 by Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri and is known for its rich and powerful sounds. It was owned and played by Italian virtuoso Niccolò Paganini, who bequeathed the violin to the city of Genoa upon his death in 1840.
