''There is no room for truth on that machine'' A sentence so simple yet so powerful given the current situation they were in, reality was already right in front of them, Orlovsky saw the truth in the future, while Lebedev, although having denying what truth he wants to fight for, but in the end he came around, not for the sake of the machine, but for his comrades who will live on to fight another day, maybe for themselves, not for the machine.

@@culturalliberator9425 Lebedev has the Minister of Defense as his father in law. I doubt anything bad would happen to him. Although, heads would indeed roll (maybe something akin to Stalin-level purges of officers). And should the truth of the costly Soviet defeat in America were to reach the public (which would have been inevitable at some point), there would be civil unrest within the Soviet Union. The Iron Curtain was already cracking prior to the war starting. The ground war in Europe was successful but came at a high cost and was in a bloody stalemate. In time it would prove to be a short lived victory, and a pyrrhic one at that. The United States would be back on the offensive, and the failure of the Soviet invasion of the West Coast would cause many Americans to join the fight. Patriotic volunteers would swell (like what happened after Pearl Harbor) and may help turn the tide in Europe. Just as Nazi Germany paid a high price for failing to defeat the USSR, the Soviet themselves, exhausted and having endured heavy casualties in Europe and America, may face a similar fate. But I like to think the main goal of NATO (which was in similar circumstances in terms of casualties) at this point was to gain back what was lost. Invading Russia itself never turned out well. However, the Warsaw Pact might be on the brink (and pissed off at the USSR for wasting their men in the US) and some nations may turn on their Russian allies. Germany more than likely since their country was the most heavily damaged during the war. NATO could try to take the Baltic states and maybe push into Central Europe to take Poland if it was possible. From my time spent there, the locals don't care for the Russians. But given the high cost that has been paid in the war, NATO would return to the bargaining table and pressure the Soviets to sue for peace. I think 3 World Wars in one century was three too many for all involved. After the liberation of Seattle, China decided to go back on their deal with the Soviets and stay out of the fight and play the long game; letting the Superpowers kill each other and play their hand when the opportunity presents itself. I don't know the situation in Asia, but it's likely countries like Iraq and North Korea invaded their neighbors while the superpowers were distracted. South Korea would have a tough fight, but I doubt North Korea would be able to win without help from the USSR or China. Japan would probably be planning for a Chinese Invasion. So maybe there would be a Pacific Front in WW3, who knows. As expected, the rest of the world would be in a complete mess. The lack of aid and support from a war weary U.S., Europe, and USSR may cause new wars in explode in places like Central & South America, Africa, and the Middle East. I did mention Iraq before. It was the major military power in the ME at this time so Kuwait is likely screwed. Desert Storm will likely not happen after the end of WW3. The rest of the Gulf States would have a tough fight against Iraq without Western aid so they may just let Iraq keep Kuwait. Iran suffered greatly during their war with Iraq, but they may fear starting another war. It could unleash a massive war in the Middle East with the Gulf States taking them on instead of Iraq alone. Syria and Lebanon as their only allies may not be enough. Still, a Middle Eastern Theatre of WW3, or really a Sunni vs Shia war could happen. Lebedev is a shrewd man. He probably saw how fruitless the American invasion was and knew what was coming as did Orlovsky. The ending hinted that Lebedev is planning something when he returns home. Probably taking part into some internal struggle for power in the USSR. I think WW3, or at least the one in Europe, would end with a coup in the Soviet Union; similar to its fall in our timeline as hardliners tried and failed to take control of the Russian government. A sequel could have opened up new campaigns for these scenarios that go beyond the American vs Russian ones. But we'll never know.

@@cashwat210 I think, and I could be conflating this with one of the Tom Clancy books, that in WiC's timeline the USSR is experiencing a massive grain shortage and reaches out to the West for aid and didn't get any, which allowed them to whip up war support and justify an invasion of Europe. I'm rather curious about what the Middle East was looking like during WiC. As for Asia... Stalin spent a week or so cutting down occupying IJA forces in China, and if I remember right he didn't bother giving the territories back. The Chinese might well have decided to reclaim those territories by force in this hypothetical post World War 3 world.

What I liked about the game most were its little bits of heroism. In one cutscene the Americans are watching the Russians parachute in at night and a Abrams rolls up. The driver pops out but he's not in uniform. He's in a black vest, he looks like a biker. Leads you to think, maybe he's ex-Army. They need people so badly they're recalling veterans. When we are introduced to Captain Bannon and Parker, the Seattle Police are at the barricades firing their revolvers at the oncoming Russians. Their pistols against an army!

I remember loving this game as a kid. I appreciated how, in a similar fashion to the original Red Dawn, you get to see both sides of the conflict and can sympathize with some of the enemy characters. Even though I got pretty invested in _defendin' muh couuuntry,_ I remember liking Colonel Orlovsky a lot; he seemed like a noble guy who didn't deserve to be there. He was also pretty smart about avoiding pissing off the occupied populace any more than necessary, whereas most villains would probably just double down on the repression and needlessly exacerbate the situation. On a side note, I love how quickly the cops at the beginning of the invasion just nope the hell out of there when they see the HINDs coming at them. They don't do anything cheesy like stand there so you can get a close-up shot of their reactions or anything like that, they just instantly jump back in their cars and hit the reverse like "Oh FUCK, I'm not getting paid enough for _this!"_

What a coincidence. I just downloaded and played this game about a couple days ago! It felt great to make Communists bleed and get lit up like Christmas trees. And pretty...I don't know. Fine to watch them die under my command while possessing Romanov. Though I had to help those bastards in order to finish the game. Maleshenko is by far the worst of the bunch. Actually advising they spill innocent blood or kill the civilians helping their homegrown army. And that they simply kill all civilians they came across. Even though, history tells of soldiers who had nightmares thanks to that very tactic. It may have worked, it did in Vietnam and bought the U.S soldiers valuable rest, but at least the good general kept his head in the right place. Stating the truth: they hate them enough. Anymore, and they will have fanatics, suicide bombers and much much worse. A wise man. Serving the wrong Army, the wrong authorities and the wrong nephew. Maleshenko. That dammed puppet deserves to be freed from his poisoned view on the world. So that he will know what he has done and what his higher ups were truly like. And repent by defecting to the U.S. Mourning his good Uncle who should have reported him and had him court martialed long before the end of the campaign. And Banon. Oh boy Banon. I hate that he was such a rookie and held his mistakes with such indifference. I hated that he didn't seem to care that he caused the death of an allied officer who should have had his support. And that he disliked General Sawyer for wanting him punished. It was clear he was not as diciplined and focused as an officer should have been. The situation demanded that Sawyer keep his command group as it was. And Banon never paid. I hated that as well. Until he finally did. Voluntarily. At Cascade Falls. I felt some releif but also some sorrow. He had finally got his head into the fight. Leading a huge flank from behind a spear of attacking Soviet armor. And then advised to hang back with Charlie Company.
