The Glory days of WoW... I remember when I had first purchased the game. I opened up the game and right at the log in screen, seeing the artwork and listening to the wonderful soundtracks, I was amazed. I couldn't help but smile. I knew that this game would be great when I first entered the world with a new character and I entered with some buddies... I mean... I just couldn't believe what I was seeing.. Hundreds of people, world wide, playing this one fantastic game, together... as a community. Every player respected one another, we all got together and helped each other out in our time of need. Making new friends on the game, people that you could interact with that have the same interest as you, you wouldn't be judged for being large or small, we all appreciated one another and we would level all day, and raid all night.... The nostalgia is hitting me right now and you could have already guessed it... x) I personally wish that Blizzard would copy all the current servers, but make them into servers set for each expansion. ex: Vanilla servers, BC servers, WotLK servers, etc... to let all the newcomers and those who joined in the later expansions, experience what the game was like back in Vanilla..

I'll make sure to give it a try :P I keep forgetting to mention this but, I miss the time that it took to level up to level 60. It was a long and arduous journey, filled with quests, lore, awesome loot (at the time), people working together in parties to complete some of the more difficult quests (Like the one in Duskwood, to kill the Skeleton that roams the Graveyard near Raven Hill), and the exploration of the zones. Exploring zones for the first time I always cherish when playing World of Warcraft :)

***** Even the best and most "blizzlike" private servers are poor facsimiles of the original game. You can complete quests and level up (if you're lucky enough not to run into any game-breaking bugs), but most NPCs that are supposed to wander around and say something just stand still instead. Not a good choice for those who value immersion and the flavor lore.

I agree that the classic WoW wasn't as good as it's now, but I am mainly talking about that everything was new and it was a beautiful experience to explore everything, similar to your aspect of erasing the memory. (The huge world, the classes with its abilities, the complex and fascinating lore [I never heard of Warcraft before when I joined WoW], the instances, raids etc...). the glorious vanilla.... now let me explain to you why vanilla was better. yes yes the game mechanics improved a lot thru out the years and we had a lot more content added. but blizzard made a HUGE mistake of leading the game to a wrong direction, it does not matter how many new contents were added when the game is dead. the direction i am talking about is the targeted gamers. in the vanilla times gamers were hardcore, altho not as hardcore as everquest, whoever played mmo at the early 2000s were serious gamers. we dedicated hours and hours of our time into the game everyday because it was a world equally as important as the real world. we would have spent 4 hours running and dying in maraudon just to get one blue piece. but the problem of this targeted consumer base is that its very small, its only a very small fraction of the entire potential community. making a game only targeting this small fraction obviously does not make sense with blizz's business model given its a publicly traded company. so blizz changed its direction, from targeting the progamers to the casuals. this makes perfect sense for the business, for the same amount of money we are paying every month, 2 casuals means twice more profitable than 1 progamers. but this changed of direction led to killing the game for all of us serious gamers. now let me explain to you why. we need to realize that the real motivation of playing MMO for progamers is not loots, is not achievements, is the community and the social interaction within this virtual world. and that is what blizz killed with all the following expansions. i remember the first time i logged into the game in vanilla few months after launch, i have friends (some rl some virtual) coming from all over aezeroth to visit me, i was a level 5 gnome, we had a group of lvl 30s dancing around me, giving me 1 gold each to help me get started, running from ironforge to wetland to get flight points. when someone gets ganked we all come around and helped each other, we would spend half a day to camp a ganker until he logs out because our friend was in need. we would travel to the top of ironforge and jump off with or without our parachute, we would go to the deepest water in winterspring and summon some other friends and watch them drawn. we made more friends along the way. on our server we knew each other, even if we didnt in real life. we would fly from US to canada to join a guild party. and we would drink and sit together in real life and listen to our more experienced friends talk about their adventures in raids that we have never been to, as if it was some real life adventure that we all wanted to partake. and we loved it. all of that had NOTHING to do with loots nor achievements. it was the experience and the friendship we enjoyed. now look at the changes made to wow. casuals wants more access to the game content. how do we do that? by making the game easier. and that is what blizz have been doing for the last 10 years. there is very few communication left, from running into the instance to summoning stone to a click on the LFG menu. no more teamwork, no more crowd control, no more class differences. you dont need a guild anymore, you dont even need friends. i dont even remember the last time i was talking to anyone in the game. sometimes i am confused if i was playing an mmo or a rpg because skyrim feels just like it too. everything is simplified to be accessible to casual players. loots are easier to get, there are 5x more instances, etc. but all these changes, good or bad, are meaningless without a community to enjoy them with. a lot of people here are debating about how the game is better now than 10 years ago. mechanically it is better. but without the community and the social interaction the game lost its soul, and that is how and why world of warcraft died

The first character I remember making was a dwarf hunter. I got all the quests in the 1-6 area finished and was wondering where to go next. Some other 'more experienced' player told me that the only way I could leave would be to get to level 40, and of course I believed him. Some other new player asked me the same question, I heart-brokenly told him that we it would be a long time until we reached a level where we could leave. He logged out and I never saw him again. I hope that gnome eventually logged back on and found his way out of the starting zone. Holy nostalgia.

WoW: one of the greatest times in my life. BC: Ddn't get around to Outland until much later, but still loved it all. WotLK: Was SOOOO excited, but as I went through it, things got worse and worse. Cata: All of my world was blown up and so much changed, it took a LOT of adapting, but in the end I left. MoP: Came back to expirment but ultimately had no interest. It's lore that attracts me, which Panderan had very little until MoP NOW HOWEVER! WoD, for the first time, actually made me pause, and doubt by doubts again. the idea of returning to Draenor, before it all, to learn and live int hat lost time. I hoping they don't fuck it up >

***** Alright, you are "wrong" in nearly everything you've just said, even though it's your own subjective opinion. :) First of all, why would you not be able to feel accomplishment for playing the game any more? The game still revolves around the same core aspects. You can do most of the things you could 9 years ago, it's just more streamlined. Fine, you can't get Grand Marshal PvP gear by being better than everyone else on your server, and having to play non-stop to maintain your rank, but there's plenty of other stuff to do. There's not a single person or player that is stopping you from traveling by ground mounts. And you're still not able to get a flying mount until level 60, so yeah. AND, they're making flying unavalible in Draenor in WoD untill patch 6.1, so there's that. You don't want to do 40 man raids, you might think you want to, but you don't. You don't want to spend an entire night trying to find 40 persons for 1 raid instead of actually raiding, and when you actually do raid, it's a trash-filled, unbalanced, linear piece of unsatisfying pie. AND, you can still experience that content if you want to. 40 players might feel more epic, but it's less organized and probably less cooperative. Grinding for heroic gear is still difficult, and there's plenty of rare items for your to find and be proud of. Okey so let me get this straight, your hoping that Blizzard releases the game as it was in vanilla? And then what, experience the same content you used to do back then? What can they really do to make the game more satisfying? Make it harder perhaps, make it more of a monthly long one-sided grind to get one item? I miss the old WoW aswell, but not because of the content and mechanics that were there, but because it was my first mmorpg, and I'm taking a wild guess and guessing that it was your first aswell. We remember the good stuff because of the nostalgia, not much else.

Ehhhh, I'm on both sides here. I'm still having a decent amount of fun. Is till play and usually enjoy WoW today, if but only because I'm a lore nerd and love to learn what;s going on. I do, however, can't stand how they mess with the classes every single expansion. In my experiance it's less streamlined, more frustrating, but I'm one that takes a while to adjust to change. I never did get into raiding so don't know what to say there, or hard core PvP x3 However, I do ask what's the point of raids that aren't end game, as by the time you have the item level, you'll be on to the next expansion area. I want to kill Illidin, or Arthas, or Deathwing my self ;3;

I haven't played WoW since 2008 and I was a druid. I hear they got rid of my tree form :( These tracks inspired me to try to write fantasy. Although I don't have much confidence, I hope to one day make a world as captivating, if not more, than Azeroth. That's my goal :) These tracks are so beautiful to me.

I think the music is part of why you get so caught up in this game, been a long time since I stopped playing, but I miss the immersion, it's like no other game.

It doesn't matter how many times i listen to this music, I cry every time like a little baby from all the emotions it brings up from my memory. If I could replicate this feeling for even just one person I would consider my life a success.

I was lvl 16 before I had a gold in my bags which was about the same time I innocently wandered into Azshara. Jumping off cliffs to get away, landing in rivers that dropped my Nelf off right next to Org >.< That was 7 years ago, the game was very very different with a focus on gameplay and cooperating with strangers instead of quick leveling, endgame and the same instances a zillion times. I stopped playing over a year ago, if you still play and love it more power to you! Not my thing anymore.

I stopped playing WoW for 4 months. When I returned there was this new zone, the Timeless Isle, and I didn't have a single information about it. Nothing. And it's being awesome to discover all by myself. I'm felling like I felt in 2007 when I started playing WoW. So I decided that, for the next expansion, I won't see any information abou the new zones (pictures, videos...). I want it all to be new to me. I want my jaw to be dropped again, like when I crossed The Dark Portal for the first time.

My past experience with WoW makes me feel conflicted. I know I shouldn't have spent so much time playing instead of socializing or doing productive activities like sport or music back when I was young, but that experience was one of the best and the strongest one in my life and I wouldn't want to erase it for anything in the world. Words can't describe the nostalgia I feel when I think about those good times playing in Vanilla and BC. The friendships. The solidarity. The thrill. The ignorance of the beginners we all where. It was a second, more colorful real world, wrapped in beautifully perfect soundtracks. I won't rant about how all the recent expansions weren't as good (mainly because I stopped playing when Cataclysm came out), or about the fact that the game should come back to its roots (because it's actually impossible now). I just wish I could go back in time, when my only concern was coming back from school and playing the old WoW... just to know this feeling again.

Hey man i totally feel you, it's totally the same for me, after mid TBC game lost his attraction on me and i just played occasionally the following expansions and im totally agree with you and i too know the reason. Blizzard wanted to give a change to the game, it became totally suitable for casual gamer, which wasn't once. Fast experiencing,shared buffs,10/25 raids instead 20/40, raid made so easy to be completed by pugs, autojoin and more gives results that you don't need YOUR group to play.

I played on emerald dream for awhile. Made it all the way to 60 and other than a few scripting errors on some escort quests, no bugs that prevented progress, and even a few cool ones (like mages blink being able to move you through doors). Its a good server.

I am so saddened to have never played world of Warcraft until MoP. I knew about world of Warcraft since classic but I never knew what it actually was. I was just turning 11 years old when classic wow was released and my parents would never allow me to play video games. Years passed and I actually started playing when I was 17 during late cataclysm but I played the trial version where you could only level to 20 but luckily I had great level 85 capped friends who would port me everywhere with them (getting killed out in vash'jir) then I remember hearing about MoP coming out and decided to finally buy a subscription and play wow for the first time. I leveled my 20 human Paladin I had played my trial on to level 55 and stopped there so I could roll a death knight named Etainna and leveled her to 85 until MoP came out and leveled to 90. It hurts to see people talking about classic wow because I feel nostalgic, when I've never even played at the time. I honestly watch KZitem videos of old wow and I get sad. I don't know why, but I just do. WoW will never be the way it was before but it's nice to hold on to the memories.

Even though I agree with you, there's no point in living in the past. I'm not specifically speaking about you now, but I see so many people complaining about how WoW was better back in the days. Regardless of how true that may be, what will that help? Play it or don't. I still enjoy playing it, and I know a lot of other people does as well.

I started playin wow 10 years ago.. Before the game released, I was watching the beta games and that was amazing, totaly new world for gamers.. I bought it immediately and played for 8 years, and years by years, it became less effective because Blizzard turn it into a money machine and i was feeling that i should quit. I hated mists of pandaria even i already got the collectors, i played for 15 days and i ave done.. till I listened this soundtrack while i was about to sleep, first i remember the early days, xRoads, ally raids, yells and calling for help from lvl 20s, I couldnt sleep and opened my battle client, just pressed download button.. I dont know why but i have to feel WoW again..
