Today, we decided to go to the new fish market in Deira, Dubai, the Waterfront Market and we are going to tell you about different types of fish, we will also buy some types of fish and take them to Yahya restaurant located next to the Waterfront market, so they can cook them for us.
When you enter the Waterfront market, you will see a world of different fish, which are truly amazing, from lionfish, octopus, baby sharks, and crabs to all kinds of shrimp, lobster, seabass fish, Shaari fish, and white Persian halwa (pomfret), oysters, large grouper, etc., all of which are fresh and of the best quality. Many stalls are here, each of which sells several types of fish and marine animals. When you walk in the different parts of the fish market, the sellers are constantly showing different fish to the customers, among the interesting fish we saw was a type of lobster, which were very cool. One stall brought us an oyster to taste right there. After opening the oyster, we added fresh lemon on it and it tasted great.
The prices were different for example, baby sharks, cost 25 dirhams per kilo, or oyster shells, which cost 10 dirhams each, or one type of lobster, was 120 dirhams per kilo. A part of the market had live aquatic animals, for example they showed us a very large crab that cost 125 dirhams per kilo.
We bought octopus, lobster, pomfret and ocean fish from one of the stalls, and after cleaning them, we went to Yahya restaurant, which was next to the Waterfront market, to have them prepare it for us. Yahya restaurant has a very beautiful open space with a view of the sea with lots of tables and chairs where you can eat your food. I went to the kitchen of Yahya restaurant to watch the different stages of preparing the food closely. They were very busy. You can even choose the method of cooking the fish yourself, for example, to grill it on charcoal or to fry it in oil or another way called Sanjari which they cook in the oven.
After cooking the food they served it to us , we started with ocean fish, which is a type of fish that sticks to the sand at the bottom of the sea and is very mysterious! The taste was very delicious, lemon and garlic were added to it and it was perfect. We also had white pomfret or Zobeidi fish, it truly tasted like a masterpiece. The lobster was very tender and delicious. The octopus, brought back memories of when the idea of Mr. Taster came to life, after tasting a baby octopus many years ago in London. It was very tasty, first they boiled it then fried it. It had a very delicious gummy taste.
After tasting the seafood, we went to the fruit and meat market, where you can find all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables here, the variety is very high! For instance they had the local watermelon of Emirates which is very delicious. All kinds of fruits such as bananas, coconuts, pineapples, mangoes, pomegranates, oranges, various vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers, lemons, peppers, lettuce, cabbage are available here. It's a world of fruits and vegetables. At the end we took a look at the meat and chicken market and we saw all kinds of mutton, beef, veal and goat meat were offered here with different cuts and first class quality that you can buy.
The fascinating thing I was, was that they make sausages here with a mix of mutton and veal, which they stuff into the intestines of the cow. In general, all I can say is that when you come to this market, different food products are prepared for all tastes, so that you can get your daily needs with very high quality.
