Cement is one of the most ubiquitous materials on the earth, a staple of building construction all over the world. Today, its production accounts for 7% of global carbon emissions. The large part of which results from the burning of quarried limestone for the production of cement that leads to hefty greenhouse gas emissions. To make cement production carbon neutral, CU Boulder based researchers have developed a new cement that pulls out CO2 from the air with the help of microalgae.
