That makes the story even more sad, but it would be cool to do with a pet (letting them choose to migrate to new shell or not). I really feel bad for her, because kids have incredibly dumb logic sometimes with no malice. She probably also misjudged her own strength (when paired with a heavy hammer). I can imagine her thinking she'd give it a tap to get enough of a crack to break the rest without crushing the poor dude. Idk if I'm being too charitable or not but it seems like it wasn't on purpose and I really feel for her if thats true
@alexwisniewski2309
22 күн бұрын
You COULD also forcibly remove the crab gently from their shell and it will go in a new shell that you give them. A hammer is NOT the way to do that. But it could be done so I was suprised that Cody was appalled by the idea of a 5 yr old doing that accidentally. The way Cody responded that “It was a crab, that’s still kinda bad, but ya know it’s a crab,” makes me think he doesn’t really know what a hermit crab is. I would never really call a hermit crab just “a crab.” So I was weirded out by his response. Hermit crabs live very differently than other crabs.

the potato story reminded me of an embarrassing experience at my first job. My mom only really cooked the easiest options for my brothers and I growing up cause it was expensive to feed 3 kids. So when they pushed me to get a job at 15, I got one as a cashier at a local grocery chain. I was given a big book of all the produce codes to remember which was great, however I only knew produce by its name and code and not what it looked like. One time a woman came through with their daughter who was around my age and I asked the lady what an item was, she started laughing at me that it was celery and I was stupid to not know what it was. Her daughter started telling her "mom not all people know all vegetables" and the mom just kept laughing. I certainly know what celery and most produce is now, but it was a moment where the daughters kindness showed and all I felt was embarrassment and shame for now knowing or experiencing celery before

Hermit crabs don't grow a shell of their own, so they find discarded shells, climb into them and hold on to the inside with some of their legs. When they outgrow the shell, they look for a bigger shell and then move into it like a new apartment. That's why they're called hermit crabs-they live in someone elses abandoned shell. The girl must have splattered the actual crab with the hammer, because breaking only the shell would have been annoying to the crab but not lethal.

As a child care worker and nanny of almost 5 years you can ABSOLUTELY lie to your 4 year old about letting them “have the weekend off of school” it’s not gonna harm them and the guy saying he doesn’t talk to his mom anymore “because she did stuff like [the mom in the OP]” has deeper rooted issues to address because the lie was equally as bad as being told to behave or else Santa won’t bring gifts.
@anoukk_

I replied to an exact copy of this comment but that's probably a bot so: I agree that he probably has some deeper issues than some innocent lies but I really don't think it's good practice to lie to a kid. There are ways to be honest to them and get them to do what you need them to do. Kids pick up on that stuff. Better to teach honesty I think. But I've also never had a kid so I don't know the despair a parent may feel...

Santa is a thing that kids grow out of though. That kid is gonna talk to his friends one day about how they *also* have “2days off of school” and that it’s true for everyone.. That is a much bigger lie than santa ever was.
@Gyowei
22 күн бұрын
@anoukk_ Its a good sentiment but let me tell you as someone who works with kindergartners everyday, children are not logical. Lying to them is sometimes the only way to get through to them or get them to do what you want them to do. A child is more willing to eat their veggies when you tell them Princess Elsa delivered it to them and would be really sad if they didn't eat them than if you told them "they're healthy for you." You have to appeal to things they know and like or they simply don't understand/don't care. This is especially true when a child does not want to do something like take medicine. No amount of logic will convince a child to do something they don't want to do even if will literally keep them alive.

It kind of reads like a foreigner wrote it. I think he said "interesting" instead of "interested" for example. If he uses a dictionary for example, that would explain why he uses uncommon / unnatural words. I once dated someone who insisted on speaking English though we both spoke french, and he also had similar grammar but occasionally he would come up with really unnatural vocabulary words

When I was a kid, we figured out that we could grab our hermit crabs by the claws and pull ever so slowly and the crab would come out of its shell without being harmed. WELL, we showed our cousin how to do it and he went too hard too fast and ripped both it's arms off and it died. We left the crabs alone after that.

The accidental marriage confession is a good example of why communication matters!! Maybe if he just explained at the soonest possible moment that he didn't mean for her to think he was proposing, THEN he could tell her that he had been thinking about it and that he realizes this would be the best next chapter of his life, that he would be a fool to rescind a proposal. Frankly, I would never want to be married on accident. I would want someone to want me. 15 years of marriage is a long time, but people have gotten divorced after 50 years of marriage, so anything is possible. Be honest, folks! Edit: My god, the steak husband is another example of why communication matters. Like, bro, just TELL YOUR SERVER YOUR STEAK IS TOO RAW? 😭 His story is most definitely fake, but my god, he could have at least made an EFFORT.
@lorymichelle4838

Im sorry but it’s mostly her fault, she put him in a tough spot by just assuming. Usually in a proposal it’s known that they will have a quick speech before then get on their knee and verbally ask “will you marry me “.He did none of that. So I don’t really feel any empathy for her.

Growing up my mom only made about 14 different meals that we rotated through and had plain hamburgers at least twice a week. My mom only ate miracle whip and my dad only ate mayonnaise. We thought that the Mayo must be gross since mom didn’t eat it. My dad was picky so there were so many foods I never had growing up. No sugar cereal at all ever, no sour cream, no avacado or guacamole, no cream cheese or bagels, no cheesecake , no real salsa just pace occasionally, never had Chinese food, never ate real Mexican food just Americanized versions of tacos, no seafood except occasionally fish and tuna out of a can, also they always cooked beef very well done so never a medium rare steak. It was always so cooked it was tough. We only ate potatoes baked or fried with onion. No eggplant or squash , as I got older I realized how many things I had never eaten. The first time I had a real sleepover at a party I ate all their sugar cereals because I had never had any! There are probably 20+ more food items I didn’t have until I was an adult.

4:55 Yo when I was little I watched the Polar Express, and the scene where Santa gives the little boy one of his bells really stuck with me. I remember putting “a bell from Santa’s sleigh” on my list that year and when I woke up, my parents had given me a cool looking, decent sized bell. It seemed like they tried to find one similar to the one in the movie. I was over the MOON and proceeded to tell everyone at school the next day that I was the chosen one.
