Most of us Chinese in the Philippines speaks Hokkien(Minnan Hua), cause most of came Fujian. But some decendants don't speak like Chinese in Malaysia and other Southeast Asia. But most of us learn Mandarin or Pu Tong Hua. Most are 2nd or 3rd generation youths born here. Some are not diligent even if both their dad and mom are Chinese. 你會說一口流利的中文,帶有台灣口音。

I'm Muslim Filo with Chinese descent. I speak 6 languages and yet I don't know how to speak Chinese since we never practice chinese cultures and celebrations. Just like what you said, some of us don't have diligent about their ancestry so we forget our roots. My mother side is Chinese while my father side is Bruneian but both of my family are Muslims so obviously we only practice the teaching of our religion. I don't even know I have Chinese blood since my mother don't even care about it, until my grandmother told me that we have Chinese blood althou I look Chinese and have fair skin that stands out when I was a kid. Now that I'm adult, I'd like to have more midtone so I can blend and don't get more attentions

People who were Chinese-Filipino called Chinoy (chinese/pinoy) here in the Philippines
@maguire5302
3 ай бұрын
Yes. I saw some of the comments already. The earlier Chinese people who came to the Philippines are Cantonese and later from Fujian. The Cantonese then went back to China specifically Hong Kong because they thought that there are great things happening in Hong Kong that time and since they speak Cantonese, it is to their advantage. So the ones left are the Chinese from Fujian which speaks Minnan. If you say you can speak Taiwanese, maybe that's the Taiwanese dialect which is very close to Hokkien. But surprisingly in this video, you were not able to converse it when you heard Hokkien which should be similar to the Taiwanese dialect. Maybe the Taiwanese language that you mean is the mandarin language which is of course same with Chinese mandarin 😁. Love your videos Manna. Where are you? Why are you not making more videos lately? Take care.

At the smaller family restaurants, there are often families that still kept up their traditions and can also speak chinese - or hokkien more likely, because like in other Chinatowns and early immgration, most of them came from Fujian. At the big merchandise places like Eng Bee Tin, not so much. Recommendations that are also next each other: > New Po Heng Lumpia House - for their Lumpia! > Quik Snack - for Oyster Cake and Kuchay Ah (chinese empanada)
