I am a Māori woman, a breast cancer survivor living in Australia. From finding the lumps on my breast, right through to 8 months later, having a double mastectomy & full rebuild after 5 months of chemotherapy & 5 weeks of radio therapy I was treated with the utmost respect. The care & treatment that I received here in Australia was top-notch - and this was all through the public system. I am saddened to hear about the treatment our Māori women from home are receiving. Dr Maxine Ronald, I wish you all the best with your kaupapa to better breast cancer awareness & to make the treatment of Māori breast cancer sufferers more readily available in Aotearoa.
