Dear Find , I have only just found your videos ! They are wonderful ! ! As a retired engineer , I have a small workshop in the back garden (my wife calls it ' the black hole'!) . At the moment I am making accessories for my lathe and mill . I'm making a sub-head (speed reducer ) for the lathe to bring the speed down to 10 rpm . All the best , Jim Simpson (England)

This is a beautiful model as are all your engines. You mentioned an attempt to build a slide valve engine. In my favorite book “Allied aircraft piston engines of WW II” the story of the development of the Napier H24 Sabre has an interesting twist. After many failed endurance tests one of the engines only half the engine failed. It was traced to a machinist who could not read. He used what was thought to be an improper grinding wheel for the final finish on the moving cylinder liner. The slide valve engines went on to be some of the most compact and powerful WW II engines. I have often thought about building a model of one. I will say they have the most complicated gear train I have ever seen....Paul

Very beautiful. I see how keeping the exhaust valve open with the governor prevents firing of the mixture, but if the inlet valve is still opening and closing every cycle, doesn't that mean that it is still using gas on every cycle? I must be misunderstanding something, sorry.
@branjo7823
5 жыл бұрын
No because without compression the engine will not suck in the air/fuel mixture. It will be in a zero compression state when the valve is held open.
@zx-qu1yu

A hit and miss engine with a governed exhaust valve will "breathe", so this engine will still suck a tiny amount of gas in with a cam activated inlet valve - this is why a exhaust governed hit and miss engine should have an atmospheric inlet valve..

Beautiful engine as always Find. Your craftsmanship never ceases to amaze me! Absolutely gorgeous! Now on a hot-tube ignition, the fuel & air in the combustion chamber, is it ignited by the red hot tube body itself? Or does it actually draw in the external flame? Either way it looks like it would be hard to keep it from having pre-ignition but it obviously runs great as do the large hot-tube stationary engines ive seen. Keep up with the wonderful engines and videos, we would love to see more of them! Proost!
