It certainly was and there were points where it was actually more popular. One of the reasons why the Spanish Mafia AKA dorna wanted to buy Flammini (sp?) Brothers out was to eliminate the threat. And that's why soon as they took over they dumbed the series down. I can't stand dorna they are a bunch of Cock suckers.
@liamhayes687

@@archetypex65 At World Superbikes peak in the late 90s and early 2000s the superbikes actually started beating 500GP lap records so people started to believe WSBK was the premier bike championship since it was more exciting and in some cases faster. Then of course Dorna got involved and slowed the superbikes down. If the Superbikes didn't have so many restrictions it could be a lot more popular than it is today

I watched Superbikes in those days because the 2 stroke GP machines sounded shit. Also because I grew up in Berlin(West) everything 2 stroke was East-German crap (Trabant or MZ anyone?) but since MotoGP went 4stroke I get to watch both AND the Irish Road Racing Series where the guys with real balls race!

@@fintonstack8353 , my wife was a huge Frankie Chili fan. I managed to get a Chili t-shirt signed by him for my wife. You couldn't meet a nicer, humbler guy. In those days the top riders would mix it with us mere mortals. Always willing to sign autographs and chat. At Phillip Island, Steve and Carol Corser (Troy's parents) pitched a marquee tent and called it the Troy Corser Embassy. They were his biggest fans. Always a good place to hang out.

Yes a lot of people underestimated the RC45 and it was only a 750cc against a Ducati that was over 900cc a lot of people seem to forget that Carl Fogarty used to try and say that this is not the case but it was.. it was a better bike the build quality and everything else about it... I go out on my RC45 and I still blow bikes away that are a lot bigger CC's it's also to do with the rider don't forget that...👍🏻👍🏻
