Where's the rule the says you can't just keep awaking the genie after you have gotten your three wishes to get three more?

@@TimRG in most Genie stores, the lamp magically relocates after the alloted wishes.

@@undrhil Good to know. Never knew that. But, it still does not mean I can't get 3 more wishes if I find the lamp again.

@@TimRG that's true. You could use one of your first wishes to wish to always have possession of the lamp or to always know where it is or something.

In the Ducktales movie, there was a medallion that gave the bad guy infinite wishes when used with the lamp but the Genie couldn't grant the wish to possess the Medallion

Limits are more exciting than abilities because of stakes. Limits( quality) = higher tension ( because you know what abilities the MC has and how they work all the MC has to do is use them in a new way) Quantity of Abilities = low tension ( because the MC could just pull a new power out of his/her ass with little to no buildup/explanation otherwise known as DEUS EX MACHINA)

With my fantasy story, i tend to go for soft magic as i like to go with the idea that like space, magic is unknown and expansive.

I remember reading Sanderson's Laws. I hated them. Limits are more interesting the abilities. Wrong! This was also the guy who had a magic system based around metals. Boring! Then I read Mistborn and realized how awesome it is. Also, I now know how to describe my world in my debut series. "Double Unworldly!" Thanks. Keep up the great content.

Definitely a hard magic fan :) Though, my upcoming debut was written as a stand-alone and then it turned into a series and I realized I had to go back and edit a lot because I'm a pantser, and that doesn't jive well with hard magic that isn't fully fleshed out, lol. And, YES, can't stand the overpowered chosen one. I'm more of a "freaky mistake or misunderstanding of their powers" thing, plus impulsive/stubborn/brave. :P

Hah, funny how that happens, isn't it? It's tough to see where the story might take you sometimes. Those two can be difficult to work with together! But it'll give you lots of time and words to really work out the details, which is always helpful.
