Worm Compost: 20 gallons harvested in basement! I have three "worm bins" in my basement. I feed them kitchen scraps (melon rinds, banana peels, egg shells, even scraps of pizza, etc., but NO meat since I don't want to attact mice). I cover the kitchen scraps with un-finished leaf compost (which comes from a big pile in my backyard). The worms LOVE it. Within several weeks, it becomes lovely fully-finished compost. which I "harvest" into 5-gallon buckets. This process yields about 10-gallons of compost per month, thus 120-gallons of compost per year, which is GREAT for my home garden.
Since I don't get my leaf pile hot enough to fully "Finish" composting, I feed it to the worms and they seem to love finishing it off for me!
