Instead of using the bevel modifier and weight control to distribute edge loop cuts along the object height, wouldn't CTRL+R with middle mouse wheel give us essentially the same loop cuts effect?
@blengine
7 жыл бұрын
yes pretty much exactly the same effect that's true, the idea here though is that we can keep as many things procedural as possible, that way if we decide to extend it to be a longer tunnel we can decide exactly how much resolution we need with just a slider. In this case it's pretty simple, though i wanted to introduce the technique so that people have it in the back of their mind for where it'll fit in other cases too. :) Aidy.

I'm actually surprised by how easy this seems to be to follow you. I've said countless times I am a noob at Blender. I know some stuff but not a lot. I didn't actually follow along using Blender, I watched first to make sure I could follow along properly. I've seen tutorials that blaze through things giving no explanations to what they are doing, how they are doing it, what keys they hit, etc. Sometimes they may go to slow. I also expected with how long this video was, you were going to start rambling and going fast. You explain everything while going at a good pace. It kept me interested in everything you were doing and you explained everything so well. I'm kinda sad I need to use another hour of my time to rewatch this to do this but it's a great tutorial so I don't mind too much. I might be stoking your ego but I love when I find a channel who can teach me how to use something without going too fast or too slow. This channel and BlenderGuru are my top 2 channels when it comes to teaching me how to use and do things in Blender. Also, my god that's a lot of Nodes. lol.

One small problem I have though is that any addons you used in this video, you didn't say that it was an addon. For example, the "LayerManager" addon. It's not important to use it but still. I had to quickly research a "Layers" addon which wasn't too hard to find the right one. It wasn't too hard to install either. Usually, I just downloaded and add it in but it was different. For people who don't know how to do it. I guess you copy text that is probably the code into a "New Text Document". Click "Files" and "save as". Then change the "Save as Type" to all files. Then name it whatever you want. Just make sure it ends in ".py" I was guessing how to do it because I've never had to do that before. Also, why move everything to different layers? At least you taught me how to do that because I was wondering.
@-TheFacelessGamer-
7 жыл бұрын
Also, one more thing. About "orthographic view". I don't remember how you guys set that up but I don't think you explained how you do it if you don't have it automatically do that. For people who don't know, just hit "5" on the number pad and it will change views. Still great tutorial. I'm explaining this basic stuff in case there are new people to Blender trying to follow tutorials to get better, like me :)

You went a little fast at times and I had to back up to see what I had just missed but otherwise a top-notch tutorial. I took it one step farther and put a ship inside the wormhole. I got it to match the path by having it track to the head bone of the armature. The lighting of the wormhole interacts with the anisotropic and shiny surfaces of the ship so it looks like it's really flying through.

Hi Aidy, tried it out on my PC at home last night and it worked fine, guessing that the better GPU is what made the difference. Hi Are you using window's for this? i am on a mac book pro. Wow i am totally new to blender just started 6 weeks ago and all this just malkes me go eh?? lol i have a lot to learn i.e. it's all well and good following your instruction's which i could do but being a beginner and not knowing what the processes actualy do would i learn anything as this seems very pro as i am sure you have been doing this for years :) for example i feel i would also need to learn why why am i doing a uv map warpset process as well as the process itself :)
@blengine
6 жыл бұрын
yes i'm on windows, also, this is a fairly complicated video i would say so kudos if you get through it, specifically for the amount of aspects of Blender i tried to touch on if only briefly, showing how all of it can come together for a particular idea. The main reason for doing a uv warp by the way is that they are the only coordinates available to us that will cling uniformly to the sides of the tunnel, if we were to try another idea and just animate the position of the noise instead of the uvs that are telling the noise where to be on the model then we'll not get quite the same effect, i quite cool effect would still emerge though, so it's definitely worth just throwing things around and challenging why things are the way they are and trying to break it, you might find quite cool methods! :) Hang in there definitely though, i think you are asking the right questions! Aidy.

yes it sure would! For anyone unsure of the process the basic steps are outlined here... kzitem.info/news/bejne/1qpjsY2Bm6Cba3Y i'd recommend to not have them stretched out with the vector mapping node when baking. @blengine
7 жыл бұрын
No worries! Possibly your graphics card isn't compatible for gpu rendering, that's the thing you would set in the user preferences under the 'system' tab. If you can't change your 'cycles compute device' then you'll just need to use the cpu and keep the tilesize down low like 16. Actually even if you can use the gpu usually setting it up to 512 isn't optimal for speed, it's better around 256 anyway, i just like to render at a larger size which is still faster but lets me see a good chunk of the render straight away. There's an addon called auto tile size that is the best for figuring out what exactly to set that to based on your render size. Good luck on your Blender journey! There's a lot of free stuff out there to help you through it if you have the time. :) Aidy.

Amazing tutorial. I've never worked with Blender before and it took me 6 hours to finish it. Can you please explain what would be the best way to create an "exit" at the end of wormhole (as if you've reached the end)
@blengine
6 жыл бұрын
glad you liked it! That is amazing you managed to get through it with little Blender experience!!!! Getting to the end of the wormhole could be done by animating some of the settings of the linear fade at the end of the wormhole, the parts at 34:00 of the video. Or you could hook that uv map up to another empty that controls the uv warp of just that which will only move at the end. Or possibly you could render out a black and white image of that end fade uv warping along the length of the cylinder and use that as a transparency mask to reveal some other scene behind it. That could be tricky to do but if you watch some more tutorials like the clouds flythrough you might be able to start to see how the techniques can be bent to your will and solve those cool creative tweaks that you might like to do! :) Aidy. (again amazing work being new to Blender)

When i put the viewport setting to material , i can't see the wave or noise texture. In render mode i can see them. Put in render mode i can't play it of at a descent speed. what is wrong that i can't see the texture's in Material mode mode ?

hmmm, i haven't heard that before, perhaps that could be a limitation of your graphics card? Though i'm clutching at straws there, very strange! Let me know if you or anyone comes across a solution! :) Aidy.

I know this is an old video, but I'm trying to recreate the mask and Blender doesn't seem to be able to use both UV maps at the same time in the same material. When I mix the 2 noise textures with the mask only the noise texture that is connected to the UV map that is selected in the vertex data properties comes through. And it won't let me select both UV maps or select both cameras in the panel. It's one or the other.

mindblowing tutorial, thank you a lot !! now i would like to have a procedural switch between a few image textures(e.g.different cloud images like yours at the end of the tut) one fading into the next in a random timespan..Thanks again

Perhaps you are missing an emission shader that everything is going to before it goes to the material output? Hope that helps! :) Aidy.

This is awesome dark magic. I"m having a problem where my viewport doesn't render the procedural textures in material view.. only in rendered view. It just shows white.... so I had to use render view when trying to follow. Any idea why?
@blengine

Hmm, is it a particular layer of textures i wonder? Was it working fine up until something like the glow at the end of the tunnel for example? Aidy.

It shows my image textures, but procedural textures are all white. Not sure. Anyway, love the tutorials. I'm an old Blender user from the 2.3 days. It's changed so much and I love resources like this for catching up. Thanks for what you do
@blengine

2.3! Wow, I joined in the revolution at the change from 2.49 into 2.5 so i'm a relative newbie compared to you. The version for a lot of procedural textures to show up I think was a 2.8 thing so you'll need to make sure you're on that. Also perhaps one of the procedural textures isn't using the right uv set, possibly the end of the tunnel glow? Hope that helps anyway! And thanks again for the kind words! :) Aidy.

Hi, when adding in the noise texture to get some of those speed lines, the noise doesn't move with the stars. How do I get it to follow? EDIT: nevermind.... I had to switch the UVS great tutorial by the way! purchased the package!

Strucked at 8:59 ... what does "Pulldown and let's ctrl shift click this" how to do that??? Plz tell me
@blengine
6 жыл бұрын
ah i say, 'lets select this image from the pulldown' (from the pulldown menu i mean basically :) ) then we ctrl shift left click on that node to create the temporary emission shader, that only works if you have the node wrangler addon enabled. Hope that helps! :) Aidy (also check out this short video here for more tips on how we have blender typically setup... kzitem.info/news/bejne/jpV4wJWpgJGGd3Y)

excellent tutorial, I'm very happy with the results I've achieved. however I'm not sure which stage i went wrong, but when i alt A mine the motion seems to be away from the camera rather than towards it, is there a quick fix to this?
@blengine
7 жыл бұрын
thanks! Glad you liked it! Yes it is a quick fix, check the section at 11:45 you need to make sure that's a minus value, but if yours is then just set that to a positive value instead, or rotate the uv's around 180 degrees in the image editor. Hope that helps! :) Aidy.

@blengine
7 жыл бұрын
That's exactly the sort of reaction I was hoping for! :D By the way, was it the shift-P create frame that you were wondering how to do? Just a side note, that's one of the tricks we can use thanks to the node wrangler addon, so if anyone is reading this make sure that is enabled! :D Aidy.
@jarredeagley1748
7 жыл бұрын
Yep! I use node wrangler to the extent I've picked up from videos and such, but I'm not really fluent with it yet. On a side note, instead of dealing with all the UV seam issues, why not just use generated or object coords for the procedural textures? Would those not work with the tube twisting?
@blengine
7 жыл бұрын
ah, good question, generated and object coordinates would allow us to have the textures travel in one direction along a straight line, what we're trying to accomplish here is the textures traveling along the twisting and turning geometry, hope that makes sense! :D Aidy.

ummm. How do I apply the image if I stupidly somehow deleted it off the model? I'm at 55:41 in the video and I, of course, screwed something up.
@blengine
7 жыл бұрын
haha! No worries, these things happen, do you mean the image texture or the material? If in the image uv editor like at 55:41 as you say then check out that part at the bottom where there's a little + icon and 'new' and 'open' buttons, to the left of the + icon there is a little image icon that is a pulldown menu for all the textures in the scene, you can select it back from that list. Or use 'open' instead if it is missing altogether. This can also be done from the node editor with the image node. Hope that helps! :) Aidy.
@-TheFacelessGamer-

+CG Master I've tried that but it just is still missing the image. I got rid of it accidentally by hitting the x to get rid of it originally. I'm looking through the settings and can't really find what is messing it up.
