If you allowed your breeders to get this bad, your operation is over stretched or under staffed. If the husbandry you provide your animals is to their detriment , you should consider an alternate career path.

Do they live in enclosures like that 24/7, or only for breeding? No enrichment?

They live in individual tubs with a hide and water bowl, which are removed when they are put together for breeding.

@@feelah2 I felt the same way when I started keeping snakes, then I started to learn about their needs. They do very well in these tubs.

@feelah2 completely understandable reaction, especially if you've not really looked into snakes before! So snakes are a bit simpler minded than warm blooded mammals. There are smarter cold blooded species like monitor lizards or komodo dragons, but snakes are not that. They don't feel safe in large tanks, because a large tank means less cover, and less cover means being vulnerable. Snakes tend to like to cram themselves in extremely tight places, even when content. It helps to keep them warm and feel safe! They'll usually try to cram under rocks, fallen logs, or other debris that is a bit heavy and dark. For cleaning purposes you obviously don't want something extremely heavy, of course. They don't really interact with their environment other than to investigate what something is, they don't really play (a sign of higher intellegence) and once they map out their enclosure, won't really do it again until you remove them/put them back or are cleaning their tanks.

That tub was still filthy in the corners. You could see it when you put in the new newsprint.

You allowed them to get into this condition?

They were put together the night before in a clean unit to see if they would breed. When I came down in the morning this is what I found. They usually make a little bit of a mess but nothing like this.

Never seen a mess quite like this one! You'd never know it by looking at them now.

Where do you get the plain news print and that cleaning spray?

Chlorhexidine is a veterinary disinfectant and I find mine on amazon. A gallon will last me maybe a year, its diluted something like 1 oz to a gallon of water. The paper is also from amazon, and like many things it pays to look around. I think I paid $32/roll for 15''x 1440ft, but when I went to purchase it again the price had doubled. Searched around and found the same product from another supplier for $32/roll.

so this happened overnight? could it be that one of the snakes had diarrhea? it's insane just how much it got all over the walls

Most likely both pooped and urinated, then spent the night sliding around in it. I do remember feeding the female an extra meal the week prior, so I should have waited for her to poop before pairing.
