As a game developer, it absolutely infuriates me to see people with techbro brain rot claiming that NFTs can make items or other player-owned assets transferable across different games. NFT is not some ultra-sophisticated intellegent API that can understand differences between file formats, programming languages, 3D models and game mechanics, then somehow translate and integrate an asset to another game. That's not how code works. That's fucking magic. NFTs are not fucking magic. They're a cumbersome and flawed framework that can (within limited applicability) authenticate an ownership of an asset. The mismatch between horrific balance (audio and gameplay lol) and shallow anything (no features beyond what a template unity project would provide!) and amazing graphics tells me that these graphics actually received the same amount of effort- they were purchased from unity asset store, or commissioned from people not in the know or who have no shame, or simply stolen like the animations and such There is no real effort in this game, everything here is stock standard template stuff. It's actually crazy how far you can get on zero skill or knowledge at all, due to unity's overly specific templates and the asset store, which I think vastly degrades the quality of gaming as a whole (without these templates, the only way a game like this is getting made is if the devs actually are talented, and that'll bring with it actual options and features and balance and stuff like that, because it's an actual game made by actually talented people in it for the game)

@BetaDude40

Americans have a deathly insane fear of national ID numbers (because "tyranny" or "communism" or whatever bullshit we wanna pull when it gives good soundbites on Fox News), so when the government created the Social Security system in the 1930s under the New Deal, they inevitably had to make a sort of internal identification system to make sure that people were getting benefits and they were who they said they were. It was never at all intended to be an identification number beyond social services using it to identify who you were _internally._ And then banks found out that "hey, there is a super secret number people are assigned at birth that uniquely identifies them. Instead of having to make our own ID system, let's just piggyback off of the government's system!" And then other places, like hospitals and universities and businesses all began to use social security numbers as unique identifiers, _despite these numbers never being designed to do so._ Social security cards, which contain your number, have no identifying information on them. Just your name and your number, no photo, no biometrics, nothing. The number itself is 9 digits, which means it can at most represent 1,000,000,000 people, which is large but certainly not unattainable by a first-world nation over about 100 years. There are no error-correcting bits of information, no two-factor authentication schema for the data on your card (nobody carries their social security card with them, most people just memorize the number, having the card is useless except for people who have trouble remembering, or other people trying to impersonate you). The best part? The numbers aren't even random, for a very long time they assigned these numbers based on hospital region identifiers, so that the first 4-5 digits denoted where you were born, and the subsequent numbers are assigned _sequentially._ There have been _numerous_ cases of intentional or even _accidental_ leaking of an SSN because someone happened to be born in the same hospital as someone else at about the same time as them. The worst part about all of this is that efforts to modernize the system or abandon it entirely for a safe and secure national ID system is met with intense backlash from the political right wing in the United States, despite our current system literally being worse than not having it. There are some states that are trying to implement a state ID system as part of a state-issued driver's license, but these are patchy and depend on the legislation in your state. This also all does not account for the fact that many Americans don't have social security numbers. You can opt-out of having one, so long as you accept you won't receive social security benefits when you're older. Perfectly fine for its intended system as part of the New Deal, but given the SSN's ubiquity as a de facto identifier number, it obviously plays horribly with most registration forms in the United States. So yeah, I don't understand how social security numbers work either.

I can only see it working as cosmetic skins and even then it's a stretch. MAYBE it could work for 2D pictures only. Like if you had a bored ape and you could get it on your GTA car as a wrap or as a graffiti tag in rust, but there's really no point. And then the devs would be foolish to consult the blockchain every time the picture needs to be loaded.

Pokemon has a huge feature creep problem since every game needs to include every pokemon. This leads to a huge chunk of the development budget being spent towards implementing the different pokemon and attacks. NFTs as game items are like this but sooo much worse. If you want to be able to bring a weapon from one game to another then you'll have to implement that wepon in every game. So every new game needs to implement a TON of weapons and characters, making development of NFT games really time consuming and the games impossible to balance.
@angel-ts1lz
Жыл бұрын
i gotta disagree here. current mainline pokemon games do not include every pokemon. the majority of attack animations are reused heavily, though occasionally personalized to specific pokemon. not only that, the models of older pokemon themselves are, for the most part, the same from gen 6 (excluding changes in texture or some outliers). hell, even added features such as mega evolutions, z moves, and whatever the newer ones are usually only stick around for a game or two. this isn't even me ragging on pokemon games because on a business level, i get it. but if even one of the biggest game companies out there can't do something on that scale, the odds *insert random nft game company here* have of managing something on a much bigger scale longterm is like basically zero

26:10 The solution to that problem is that companies should allow community servers and mods. Project M is a great example of a mod rebalancing things in a game after people were unsatisfied with the official company's changes. NFTs won't solve the existing problems the intellectual property system has.

Closed and limited betas are actually pretty common in the traditional games industry. It's a trade-off where the developer wants to get some feedback but doesn't want to reveal too much of the game to the general public to where the public feels like they've seen it all. So they only let a few people in to the beta. That part is actually normal.

It is amazing how many non-game-devs threw together a project, figured out how to sell NFTs, and then never quite figured out how to integrate their game with anything pertaining to the blockchain. As somebody who had to implement a blockchain integration myself (for a job with a boss who thought it was somehow useful to what we did - it wasn't), everything pertaining to web3 is an absolutely hellish experience for the developer. There are some libraries that try to polish over the worse warts, but there's a reason every signup and web3 config page is utterly impossible to use - the underlying tech itself is just that bad.

@21:47 I find it amusing that they claim "unprecedented interoperability" while there is already a centralized platform that allows for skins to be used across millions of games. Right there in the description for why it's unprecedented they mention Roblox, a platform that allows for one to get skins and animations that can be used in a plethora of games (I may be stretching the definition of games for most of what you can find on Roblox, and it certainly isn't a company without more than it's fair share of controversy but still). I always do find it fun to point out that Roblox fits the definition given for most metaverses without requiring blockchains, NFTs, or decentralization.

17:00 I agree 100% that beta access shouldn't be sold, but limiting the playerbase to an amount you can work with (the input you'll get) is probably still useful. - Most Companies work with pools they can manage rather than pools that would turn out in a burn out. So i agree that 7000 is not enough by far, especially if sold, but uncontrolled millions are also not **more** helpful than a big controlled group

the reason to make a pay-to-win version of a free-to-play game is so that whales can feel better by winning easier. They usually fail pretty quickly, since the free-to-play players rarely stick around once they discover the original game exists, then the pay-to-win version starts matching whales to whales, and they have to be good to win anyway, and they go find a new place where they can buy victory. Short term lucrative.
