So I can't really say for the newer Toyotas if they're reliable or not.

the problem here is lack of context. But I guess we have to just assume that it is about overall impression. Is that the coffee machine in the service lounge? This happened to me with a 2016 C-Class - it would visit the garage every month till one mechanic solved all the problems, and it is already one year it is riding smoothly, no problems returning or new ones coming up. @@ctclardy Subaru joined with Toyota so they could adopt Toyota’s hybrid system on some newer hybrids that Subaru will be offering. Toyota wants Subaru’s symmetrical AWD in their models. The strongest model for Subaru is the Forester (personally my Forester was a LEMON 🍋). The redesigned Crosstrek is becoming more popular with the Wilderness trim. I honestly don’t know how Subaru surpassed Toyota. When a Subaru engine hits 150K miles they start leaking oil like crazy because Subaru uses silicon instead of regular gaskets, so at around 150K miles they have to be rebuilt using real gaskets and then the engine will last another 100K+ miles. @@rdspam LOL @spam. You sound inordinately disgruntled - some dealers can be assholes. I had a Hyundai once - new when I was in college - and it was practically un-roadworthy with no apparent faults and then so many things started breaking. No one would steal that POS if it had a $100 bill on the dashboard with the engine running. I drove an E39M5 for a while and it wasn't BMWs best either. I recently bought a new G07 X7 that came with the free maintenance, so I don't know what you are talking about. I do know that you cannot treat a BMW like a Toyota or Honda due to tight tolerances and spec required oils and intervals. You do know that rating agencies have recently put the BMW lineup at the top or within a few notches of the top. If you think you got bad treatment from the stealer, you can take the issue to HQ in NJ at BMWNA and they will make it right. Most people never do. I love my E60 with it's N54 after they fixed the high pressure pump and injectors - was trouble free. But then do preventative maintenance at suggested intervals rather than letting it go and abusing the car. Both of my B58 powered cars are flawless and make gobs of power with the approved Carhban upgrade done at the stealer.

Most likely they do not care about depreciation because their net worth is very high and $300k is like buying a bag of chips for them. On the other hand, I'm aware that there are individuals out there who have no business buying these car and consciously go into a boatload of debt just to look rich. @@lmfinato, I never had a Subaru, but Outback looked good. My sister had a Forester that she trashed many years and I'm surprised that thing still drives well. Many causes can lead to lemons among the best brands... Still, statistics on reliability and low TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) have the top Japanese producers as the best choice. The rest is a personal choice we are responsible for.

The truth is that the Korean cars are in the middle of reliability/costs rankings, but there are far worse alternatives: Chinese commies' clunkers (including ex-British MG and ex-Swedish Volvo), Indian ones (ex-British Jaguar and Land Rover included), most of the German cars (less Bring My Wallet), the electric clunkers etc. But smart people will buy the top Japanese cars, the peak of reliability and low TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

All this guy talks about is maintenance cost and reliability over and over again. I'm pretty sure people who can afford it factor that into account when buying a vehicle Yeah, they are factors in determining overall ranking, but there are a plethora of other factors too. "I don't understand why Toyota ranks so low, they're reliable." Yeah but their interior looks like ass compared to their competitors and they don't drive nearly as well.

I think Toyotas suffer from being a little sluggish and their steering feels kinda soft, so I get why people might have no problems with their cars and still find them to be just average. A Mazda is so much more engaging. And then Toyota does things like put a hybrid engine in the Tacoma that lowers it usability, skyrockets it’s price all for 1 mile per gallon savings.

Well, despite the first three letters in Toyota, they're not meant to be toys, but to take you reliable where you're going and that's what they're really accomplishing. "Daddy's toy cars" or hobby cars are a whole another chapter and people usually don't put sanity of the investment or even reliability first with those cars.

I am not a fan of Volkswagen, but can say of couple of words in their defense. You can buy a new Jetta for below $24000, even with a manual transmission. And this car is very simple, my friend used to have one. There are not many things to break. Yes, parts are a bit more expensive, maybe 20%, but they are nothing in comparison with labor. Now, how can it be worse than Totoya Camry 2020 with 75000 miles on it for the same price? Or a new Honda Civic for $32000 and a waiting period?

@@zhila5958, corect! I have a Miata ND2 RF Top Revolution, it is an unbelievable car. And if you don't want a Cabrio or it is too expensive, a Mazda 3 is in the sub-compact top 3 with Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic (only the lack of hybrid is keeping them away from more commercial success).
