I carried a 92 Centurion for 8 years as a police officer, it never jammed through 10,000 documented rounds, the only thing that ever went wrong was a cracked grip and one of the trijjicon rear sight lamps went out. I would never turn one down, especially a G or D model. For cc the compact slide is bulky but that just makes holster and belt choice more critical.
@UNKNOWN3554

In case you’re looking for a G model, Beretta now sells a G conversion kit for about $50. You can convert any FS slide without sending it to a gunsmith. You can also take out the sear and drop in a D hammer spring to make it DAO, but of course you’d still be missing the slick slide of the D model.

I dont get this guy's hate for the 1911 . I've owned and shot 1911s for years and haven't had the reliability issues he talks about . Especially with today's newer 1911s . That being said I enjoy watching this channel . But do I think 9mm is better than .45 No and do I think Glock is better than 1911 not necessarily . There are pros and cons to both. As far as the 92x goes it's a decent gun but not for concealed carry it's just to bulky for my taste it's worse than the Glock 19 . Only full size Glock I like to carry is the G48 . And what makes the 48 better than the others to me is its the same size as a 1911 .
@Mr_Glock19

Hoosier Nation Their way heavier than a Glock. They have half the capacity of a Glock (unless we’re talking $3,000+ 2011’s and even then, I’d rather a Glock) and they definitely are nowhere near as reliable. My dads a 1911 collector. He doesn’t have STI’s or anything but has pretty decent ones, Colt Gold Cups and Kimbers out of their custom shop and whatnot. I’ve seen all of them malfunction. Although not often, I’ve seen it first hand. You know what I’ve never seen fail once? Any of my Glocks. None of them has ever failed. Not even once. Out of thousands and thousands of rounds. Not one failure. And when it comes to a carry gun, reliability is the utmost importance over everything. Even if a gun is 0.0001% more reliable than the other gun, the more reliable one is better for carry regardless of the other guns features. And comparing a 1911 to a Glock, reliability isn’t the only department it blows the 1911 away in. Weight and most importantly magazine capacity. All things being said I still think a 1911 is an amazing range gun. But you’d be stupid to trust your life to one over a Glock. Especially if you’re talking about fighting in a messy environment. If that 1911 gets a smidge of mud on it or if you forgot to douse it with oil that day, it’s gonna be a bolt action. A Glock? You can run that dry and dirty through thousands of rounds without a single drop of oil.

I bought this exact pistol, the 92X Compact with no rail. What put me over the line was an excellent short-term price for LE officers of only $525. I haven't regretted it one bit. While I tend to carry a Glock 19 or a Shield most often, when I teach new shooters, they consistently find it easier to turn in a good performance with the heavier gun than with a lighter striker -fired pistol. For many of them, the ability to hide the gun isn't their first consideration, and many just feel more confident with the Beretta. That is probably why the military liked the B.I.B (Big Italian Bitch) for soldiers who weren't going to get a lot of pistol training. I find it neck and neck with my SIG P226 in terms of being one of the easiest service pistols to shoot for a new person. Also, whatever they have done to the 92X grip makes it easier for more people to get their hand around it. The trigger on my 92A1 is too long for me to really do well with, but on the 92X with either grip installed, it is just fine. And, like our President, I would say that I'm a "short fingered vulgarian". I stumbled onto something I like to do with Compact. I happened to have in my stash 3 Beretta factory 17 round magazines for the full-sized 92. Of course they work just fine in the Compact, although they stick out of the bottom. But I slipped X-grip adapters over each one, and in the Compact, they look and feel great. I dig the balance of the Compact that way, and it ends up taking on the dimensions of a slightly chubby LW Commander that happens to hold 18 rounds. It reminds me of the old Centurion I used to carry. What's not to like? I'd say if you can find one at a good price, grab it.

I went with the centurion, which is basically a full size gun. The D spring is standard on these vs the OG so it’s a bit smoother. The LTT trigger will go in probably, but it’s a smooth shooter. It quickly became my most accurate and shootable gun. Too big to Carry for me, but it’s the home defense gun. I have been carrying the Centurion and the Compact for years and years. The compact carries much....much smaller. The bobbed hammer breaks up the lines of the pistol and Mec-Gar makes flush fit 15 rounds magazines. Also, little known fact for non-Beretta guys, the factory Beretta magazine plate fits on the Mec-Gar magazines making the 15 round Mec-Gar magazines truly flush fit without the pinky extension. Other people have mentioned that with 100 dollars or less in parts you can get a 6-7 pound DA pull and a 2.5-3 pound SA pull with a very short reset. It's hard to beat for under 900 dollars considering a Gucci gun of any variety is usually over 1k. It's an old design but damn does it work and DA/SA is the only way to go for appendix carry imho. The DA/SA transition can be learned in a week or so of shooting where it becomes second nature. Great review btw!

I don't think many people would carry these type of firearms today simply because of the weight and the size. Guns like the Beretta 92X Compact, Sig P228/P229, CZ 75 Compact, HK USP Compact, and so forth that uses more metal are simply too heavy to carry (and more difficult to conceal carry in most scenarios) when you can have similar performance from a much lighter polymer pistol. Then you also have newer guns that provide similar capacity in a much smaller size. Now I tend to prefer metal guns to shoot because I feel like the weight distribution while shooting manages the recoil much better, but if you're carrying a gun you rarely shoot it unless you need to defend yourself. The weight and size for most people carrying are simply more important. Now for a range, home defense, or zombie apocalypse gun (you can use it as a blunt object for bashing), I can see more people using this, but not for carrying.

Personally looking at it, I wouldn't say it's the best "carry" option. But for a bedside gun, it's pretty awesome. Having a metal frame allows for such quick follow ups, compared to the light/ultralight carry options. Plus with the smaller grip, I think a lot of people would fall in love with that one pretty early on. I know some people still say that new shooters should never start off with a DA/SA handgun. But I think having the ability to practice with DA/SA will may anyone a better shooter than just sticking with a striker fired gun right off the bat.

Took a new shooter to the range not long back. Female and of rather short stature. I rented a Glock 19 for her per recommendations, while I shot my 92 Centurion. She had a hard time controlling the 19 though she said the aggressive recoil aided in her stress relief, while wrap-around grips on my Centurion were too large for her. I unholstered the 92X Compact I was carrying and she started grouping pretty impressively for a new shooter (using SA only) with visibly less sideways movement in the oscillation of the muzzle compared to the G19. She took the 92X Compact target home. Take that for whatever it may be worth.

I carry the 92X Compact with LOK grips and an LTT trigger job AIWB and have no problem concealing in anything but workout clothes. Mec-Gar makes mags the same size as stock but with 15 rd capacity. My Centurion came with two 18 rd mags that fit flush in a 92FS though the FS comes with 15 rd mags. Not sure why Beretta does that. I would argue that the gun is an ideal carry gun for non-manlets and non-metros who want their carry gun to double as a range toy. As James says, the gap between the shooting enjoyment of the Compact and full size is not large, but for me at least the gap between for instance the Glock 19 and the 17 is enormous (I would never buy a 19). Lastly, I challenge anyone to find a better DA/SA trigger than a Beretta 92 with an LTT trigger job with the match hammer option.

When it comes to handguns everyone has a preference or a favorite. Some people love the Glock 19, some the Sig P320, even the Beretta PX4 storm is nice. I love my 92FS, I’m most accurate with it than my Sig or Springfield, it feels great in my hand. And I love the way the open slide looks. Oh yeah, I cannot leave out that on the slide it says: “ Mod. 92FS-CAL .9mm Parabellum PATENTED. Yes! I love the word Parabellum! Which in Latin means “Prepare for war” it’s the main reason I wanted the 92FS and not the M-9!! M-9 doesn’t have Parabellum written on it. I do want to upgrade with the bigger magazine release, metal guide rod, skeleton hammer, and G series de cocker which flips the safety back up automatically. Because I’ve evolved as a gun owner and understand now that the best safety is between our ears. Also, you won’t have the danger of a dead trigger in a emergency situation, and the first double action shot, is a longe trigger pull, so if you fire it from the DA position, it’s DEFINITELY not an accident!! In the words of Sootch 00 “Be strong, be of good courage. God Bless. Long live the Republic.”
