For those who might not understand... Speaking as a climber, it's not frightening because your mind is very focused on ONLY where your feet (and hands) are as you make each move. Yes, you can enjoy the position you are in, the view etc, but only when you feel or know you are at a completely stable point. That may happen between two steps or when you reach a wider ledge, but mostly you are focused on your steps, you breathing, and on what is within 2 or 3 feet of you. This is also the way to climb huge mountains. You never really try to take on the whole mountain as one thing, you climb in smaller stages, from one rest to another. Basically you break your route down into sections. Either way, the idea is that you stay within yourself, within the immediate environment and presence of mind. If you lose yourself in the wider "dream" well... let's just say that's when things may go wrong. If you undersrand this then climbing anything is not so scary. And not just climbing but in life as well.

As a climber: Do not do via ferratas without instructions. You have to know some stuff about the use of the equipment and about how to behave at a ferrata. In the end it is not unrisky if you have no knowledge. Do a training course before doing them ;)

Yes as a noob I wouldn’t suggest it, but if you’ve got climbing experience and have done a via Feratta with an instructor before you’re all good. I’m a climber and did my first one with an instructor, but had loads of climbing experience beforehand. It’s not massively dissimilar from climbing but there are a few points to take note of.

For all who want to do this: you can rent gears at the intersport but please consider this: -you need hiking boots that cover your ankles. Orherwise you have to rent some at the store. -if the weatherforecast is bad, gears will not be rented. -you NEED a reservation, at least 3 days before. -be aware of what you will be facing. Its easy but scary. There will be a LOT of people this summer.

You don't need a guide anywhere in the Alps. But unless you really know what you're doing, it is advisable to hire a guide onto high peaks and glaciers. Most via ferrata are actually tourist attractions, accessible to anyone who is reasonably fit. But even with the right gear you can still get hurt or injured very badly.
