Woman here: man made diamonds are preferred because they are far more likely to be clear of imperfections or colors from surrounding minerals which will make a stone less shiny, also they cost less (Yay!). The only people who care about real diamonds are the people selling them, or the people who want the status of having a large natural diamond. Beyond that though, Moissanite, another carbon based gem, 99.9% of which can only be manmade (naturally only formed in asteroids) is more brilliant with more fire than a diamond, and costs less than even manmade diamonds because of the lack of monopoly. The only “con” of a moissanite is the fact that it’s not as hard as pure diamond, but, another moissanite or diamond is the only thing that can scratch a moissanite. A 9.9 as apposed to a diamond’s 10. I prefer moissanite.

Not only is it a diamond, it’s more of a diamond than traditionally mined natural diamonds. I heard from a friend that in the earlier days of artificial diamond creation, the first batches were coming out with a yellowish hue to them. The engineers discovered that problem wasn’t that there were contaminates making their way into the pressure chambers creating the yellowing. Instead, as it turns out, that’s the actual look of pure solid carbon. To get a white sparkling stone that people want to buy, they have to add other substances into the mix to do so.
