@@ana1977xi just got back from living there for 6months. Firstly, the work culture is very toxic. People also seem very stressed all the time and you could feel it. Personally, i was disappointed. I am korean too and was looking for a nice experience but it was definitely a different feeling from just traveling there. Traveling was magical. You can experience, lotte world, go to kpop concerts, skincare, cafe hopping, clubbing, shopping, you name it. But living there was a completely different story. I sensed a lot of passive aggressiveness, toxicity and even judgement sometimes from other people. You are expected to “fit in” to their society or you will be viewed weirdly. It made it really sad for me to experience. I love Korea but it was also a wake up call at the reality of the culture there.

Seoul vs the ROK 🇰🇷 are two completely different options. The implication is that Seoul is [now] expensive. If you can’t be “comfortable” by affording the luxe social standards as a non-Korean, then it’s not worth moving to Seoul. You also need to know the language enough to assimilate better. The ROK 🇰🇷, on the other hand, is more affordable. If you don’t need to move to Seoul (and also don’t care about material standards), then move to the ROK 🇰🇷 in a more affordable region.

@@PrinceGaki That’s ridiculous, if you make 100,000 you can pay your rent, go out on weekends, take a trip or maybe 2 a year, give your parents some spending money and have a small amount of savings. You cannot live “like a king” in Seoul with $100,000.
@PrinceGaki
2 ай бұрын
@@namjoonswhite-stripedcrab You absolutely can. Like I said, what are you spending your money on????? 1) if you have enough money for 전세 (probably spelled wrong) you don't even pay for rent. 2) let's say you do have to pay rent, that's only 600-800$ for a decent place. 1.000$ will get you a place in even Gangnam. 3) Even if you eat out TWICE EVERYDAY, that's only 30-40$ at most (Lunch can be under 10$ most of the time, and dinner is around 15$, I doubled it just in case you eat more or whatever). Let's add 10$ more for drinks and snacks. 4) Monthly subway = 2$ per day = 60$ per month. Phone bill = 30$ Internet bill = 40-50$ Other expenses (like barber or whatever) = 100$ Total without rent= Around 2k Total with rent= around 2.5k to 3k And do note, this is if you eat out TWICE EVERYDAY. If you cook at home you can drastically reduce that number by almost 800$ per month. If you earn 9.000$ a month (6 figures), you still have 6.000$ to spend on whatever else you want, PER MONTH. Meaning, you can get a better place and get a very big, and comfortable place. You can eat anything you want. You can go out everyday and drink And you'd still have money to spare. So tell me again, what are you spending your money on?
@namjoonswhite-stripedcrab
2 ай бұрын
@@PrinceGaki You can but you are absolutely are NOT living like a king. Also, taxes, generally from what I can confirm from my family and friends is around 30-35% Having enough 전세 to not pay rent assumes you have 500,000. That was the average price tag in Seoul last year. Assuming you are making 100,000 how do you just have that lying around to pay that even if you are still living with your parents? Obviously it’s a different case if your parents are paying for your place. If you are paying rent, I don’t know what you have seen but $600-800 is not cutting it in Seoul. I’ve been to friend’s places where they pay more than double that and they are close to work but their places are tiny and not luxurious. If you go out, you are often not paying for yourself only, especially when you are drinking and when you drink you order food even after dinner. Weekends are a whole other to do. This is also assuming you are saving some money in the process and not spending everything you make. My point is, you can most certainly do it but it is not in the lap of luxury.
@PrinceGaki
2 ай бұрын
@@namjoonswhite-stripedcrab Why are you including taxes? Who the f speaks about gross wage instead of net wage? We are assuming 6 figures NET wage, with taxes already paid. 500.000 for 전세? What are you trying to rent, a 4 bedroom appartment? You only need 200k for decent places. You can buy the appartment for 600.000. The average price you are looking at is just that, the average. It's the same as saying "The average wage in this country is 10.000$" while most people earn only 2.000$, but a couple millionaires drive up the price to 10.000. I know many friends in Seoul that didn't pay nearly close to 500.000k. Most of them only paid 70-100k. But let's disregard 전세 for now. I've lived in 10 different areas in the past 10 months, and I have talked to many people. None of them ever paid more than 1.500$ for rent. I don't know what you're comparing it to, or if you're only looking for 2 bedroom appartments.... This is not the standard in Korea. I've lived in Seocho-Gu (basically Gangnam) and I was paying 600$ for rent. I've looked at places in Gangnam and there were many places for 800-1.000$ for a 1 bedroom appartment. And this is Gangnam, the most expensive place. Go a little while out to Nakseongdae, Sadang or even Sillim and it's almost half price. 1.000$ rent a month easily gets you a comfortable place About going out, you don't pay everytime for everyone :) sometimes they pay for you. This is a bad example and doesn't make sense. I've went drinking and eating, usually once or twice a week. Most of the time 50$ is more than enough for a day out. This is 200-300$ per month. SO let's say you pay 2.000 for rent, you can get 3 bedroom appartments in Seoul for that price (but if you live alone you don't need that). Add 2k for the other expenses I summed up above. That's 4k to have a 3 bedroom appartment, while eating out twice a day (and I even doubled the price for food just in case, I pay only half of that if I eat out). You're still saving 6k a month. Instead of coming up with things like "Oh my friends said that", come with actual numbers and prices. And don't use the average price for 전세, as that's not accurate. EDIT: LOL I didn't even read the part where you said "How can you even save 500k if you live with your parents while making 100k". How about... Don't throw your money away? How are you spending more than 1.000$ per month while living with your family?? you're saving 80-90k per year. I'm beginning to think you're just being used as a fund by your "friends" and they make you pay 200-300$ bills every day.
