I'm one week post i&d from an infected abcess. It was packed in the ER and I was told to change it bid starting 1 day post.I followed up with the NP 3 days later and to my surprise she told me to STOP packing which I thought was odd. After 2 days, wound still draining so the NP then tells me to start packing again. I feel like I'm getting bad care. The incision is in my umbilical area and very much open. After each packing change there is still bright pink to yellow/brown d/c. I follow up again with NP in 2 days. I don't have faith in her

if a wound is deeper then 1 cm it needs to be packed. this will help the tissue grow upward. packing should just go in fluffy not tight. If you would like further recommendations on how to optimize wound healing, you can always book with me at thewoundconsultant.com/

What product besides just saline on packing strips/gauze do you reccomend to pack the wound with to keep it moist for 24 hours? Is Woun'Dres Collagen Hydrogel Wound Dressing appropriate to use?. Also big toe bone is exposed... trimmed down 5mm.

when a dr says to keep the wound moist this means to keep it as moist as your eyeball. hydrogel is used for dry wounds although you have to be cautious as adding too much moisture can cause maceration and tissue breakdown (maceration is white periwound)

Daughter has P cyst. I'm packing it at home but was not told how long this has to be for. I feel unqualified for this. I was told if I had any questions to consult a youtube video. Also, follow up in a week is scheduled with a diff doc. I'm not happy about treatment. Scared I'm gonna mess this up and she will get a new infection. He really seemed like he didn't want to see her.

I'm so sorry to here this experience, unfortunately this happens all the time. Just lightly pack until the wound is about 0.5 cm or less.

I had a quick question, the doctors have us using Dakins packing strips for a chronic pressure sore grade 4. Just wondering what your thoughts are on that? The depth is about 5 cm. lots of exudate.

I had to pack my sons open wound after pilonidal cyst removal so the area is somewhat difficult to pack due to his glutes fighting me. Anyhow, after 6 or so weeks the wound looked pretty good and Dr cleared it. Said I would have to still keep a gauze on it for final drainage and such in the coming 1-2 weeks. After about 1 week I found I could no longer pack anything so I just added gauze per instructions. Finally, another week goes by and my son complained about being sore. I checked the area and noticed a very small hole toward bottom of incision where there was some pinkish fluid draining. Does this mean I haven’t finished packing or is this normal? I have already reached out to the provider but I am wondering why he had built up drainage in there when I thought he was nearly done healing. Any thoughts?

Since it is not pus I don't believe it is opening due to infection. It more then likely just split open a bit due to movement or sitting. Of it looks like it needs a bit of packing you can place some if needed . If not continue doing what you are doing. If it gets worse (more painful, more open day after day, warm, pus ,there may be infection)

@@NurseAlyssa39 thank you!!! I spent so much time researching last night but I finally just booked an appointment with the general practitioner while I get an answer from the post op team (Just in case). Either way, your answer makes me feel better! Thanks again ♥️

So when I had a c-section, the surgeon should have never closed the multiple slices she cut through me.

yes that is healing by primary intention, some wounds will open due to infection ect and they need to be packed ( there are many cases when they need to leave a wound open it is not an ideal situation as sutures reduce the risk of infection)
