I like everything you do but next time I’m taking a drink, I’ll make sure I will wait till conclusion! I think Salt Lake City getting an NHL team is fantastic, but to say that MLB having a franchise in Salt Lake City, is a bit much???? That city would support the hell out of a baseball team, just like they do right now with the Jazz and will do with the NHL team! I understand that Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles are bigger cities, but what a freaking joke that all three of the states have multiple teams in the four major sports! Rangers and Islanders, the Knicks and the Brooklyn, Nets, the Cubs and the White Sox, and the biggest joke, the Ducks and the Kings! I get the white Sox and Cubs, that’s fine, and I get the Mets and the Yankees. But I don’t get and never have the Jets and the Giants! They play at the same freaking stadium! I’m sorry it’s a joke. The Rams and the Chargers? Wtf! There was no reason for San Diego to move the Chargers to LA. Again, playing in the same goddamn stadium! These franchises clutter the big city market’s and could’ve been a chance to put the NHL, MLB, and the NFL in some of these markets that don’t have teams! I don’t want to hear in this day and age that they can’t afford to have a team, if they have an arena! And if you’re coming, they’re building! All the money from restaurants, ticket, sales, Apparel, etc. not to mention the amount of jobs it creates for that city or area! I just had to put that out there.

@@korthjw yeah, I hear ya, I understand what you’re saying. Do you know the sad part is that his billionaire owners could fund building a stadium without needing much help, and it benefits, their pocketbook and benefits, the community, there’s just so much upside. I live in a suburb of Detroit. Maybe we were lucky, because Mike Ilitch loved this city, and funded most of his own money to Comerica Park, and little Caesars Arena. He also bought the Fox theater and the Hockeytown cafe both Staples in this city between the arena and the stadium. Who ever thought starting a little pizza parlor in 1958 would become this empire! Unfortunately, he passed before he was able to see you Little Caesar’s Arena be completed. Make no mistake, HE was the driving force of literally changing the city of Detroit! My point to all this is that these billionaire owners allow greed to come into play, when they know that 90% of the time, they could have made the difference in staying and not relocating. San Diego was absolutely screwed by this owner. The LA scene and the promise of SoFi stadium was the main reason he moved them, and gutted the fan base. Unfortunately, in this era of our lives, if the wrong billionaire owns the team you love, then unfortunately it’s loyalty be damned and the relocation cloud is always there. 😢

The NHL wants to keep the market in the league

Salt Lake City could have a name like the Huskies, Mountaineers, Pioneers (due to the popularity of Mormon pioneers), Wolves, Lynx, Goats, Bison, Badgers, Elks, Lions, Gilas, and Bullfrogs. As far as the animal names those were ones I researched as far as popular animals in the state of Utah which mountain wolves, mountain goats, and mountain lions were up there on the list. If they kept Coyotes, they’re actually pretty popular in Utah as well. The American bullfrog is actually is the most popular animal in the state so if they went the New Orleans route they could go Bullfrogs as the Hornets changed to the Pelicans based off of Louisiana’s state bird. There’s an animal called a Gila monster that’s a venomous lizard which I never heard of one before. I think Pioneers, Huskies, Elks, or Bullfrogs would work out the most as far as a Salt Lake City team name goes. I really would lean the most towards Pioneers because of the historical ties.

I don't understand Hamilton being mentioned repeatedly for expansion. There is a direct highway from Toronto to Buffalo only 100 miles away, and Hamilton sits in the middle of that route. While there is the population to support it, there is no way the NHL is going to have 3 franchises lined up along a 100 mile route.

Cool! They will get more support in Utah. I wonder if they will change the name? I suggest the Missionaries. Okay manybe not, that might offend the fanbase or could conjure up thoughts of pornhub. The Coyotes will work but if they want to change it, the Pioneers would connect with state history, maybe a Utahraptor which really is the name of a dinosaur. Something to do with bees, like the Stingers, although it sounds a bit lame. Saints would be awesome, it would be a bit of a jab at New Orleans both for using the name and they took the Jazz away from them, but they won't use that. Pioneers sounds like a safe option.
