As I listen to your reaction I'm reminded of a conversation I once had with my niece, who was 20 years old at the time. She came into the room and overheard me playing this song on my laptop, "Uncle Dean," she suddenly said, "What on earth are you listening to?" I told her that it was one of my all time favorite songs by Electric Light Orchestra, (along with "Here is the News." She took a second or two to process this, then she finally said, in a tone of resignation, "My generation is never gonna come up with anything as cool as this..." After a moment however, her face brightened as something dawned on her, then she added, "But that's okay, we can just listen to the music of your time..."

Jeff Lynne is known for his musical production capabilities (both with ELO and many other artists), his melding of classical and pop/rock elements, and as you pointed out his vocals, which are amazing. Saw ELO in concert about 5 years and was shocked at how good his voice has held up into his 70s!

Love this group. ELO had their biggest hits in the 70's-80's & mixed modern rock pop songs with classical overtones. Jeff Lynne wrote most of their songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Roll Over Beethoven", "Evil Woman", "Showdown", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Strange Magic", "Livin' Thing", "Do Ya", "Rockaria!", "Turn To Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Mr. Blue Sky", "Wild West Hero", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Shine A Little Love", "Confusion", "Hold On Tight", "Twilight", "The Way Life's Meant To Be", "Here Is The News", "Ticket To The Moon" etc.

Hi SalvoG..you recently reacted to Roy Orbison. Jeff Lynne was one of the main players in resurrecting Roy's career into mainstream in the late 1980s. Roy Orbison was one of of Jeff Lynne's heros and he had a poster of the "Big O" in his bedroom growing up. They formed the supergroup the Travelling Wilbury's, consisting of JeffLynne, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. Roy Orbison said he was the best producer he had ever worked with. Jeff Lynne's incredible musicality is off the scale.

Oh, my Dude- E.L.O is, in my opinion, probably where The Beatles might have gone if they had moved into the mid- late 70’s. Jeff Lynne is an absolute genius - he was actually asked by the remaining Beatles to produce unfinished songs “Free As A Bird” and “Real Love” back in 1994. I love this song, but my picks from E.L.O would be “Evil Woman”, “Turn To Stone” and “ Telephone Line”.

I saw these guys in the late 70s. At the time the stage was crazy decked out as a spaceship. I seem to remember they tended to have a lot of technical problems but it was truly amazing for the time. I distinctly remember this urban myth kind of story going around that a female fan’s eye was injured when an ELO laser light hit her watch face and bounced to her eye. All these dire warnings going around about not wearing a watch to the concert . . . Does anyone else remember that or should I chalk it up to bad acid?

Long list of good, good songs in their catalog. Jeff Lynne formed Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) which has had several musicians come and go, but Jeff has remained the one constant. ELO is his baby. Jeff is a highly respected musician/songwriter and was good friends with George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and others. He was a member of The Traveling Wilburys super group that consisted of him, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, and Bob Dillon. I've seen them perform live twice (late 70's and mid 80's). Big, professional performances and remain some of my best memories. "Fire On High", "Showdown", "Ma-Ma-Ma Belle", "Boy Blue", "Evil Woman", "Do Ya", "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", "Sweet Talkin' Woman" - just to name a few.

ELO (E.L.O.) found their niche with extremely catchy, slickly produced music embellished with varying levels of strings, or later synth strings. This one was from their Discovery album which got the nickname Disco, Very. (The reality was it had two disco songs and lots of catchy pop). I enjoy this song, but think it might not be the best introduction to the band since most of their songs, including their hits, had more changes and complexity than this one. I'll be surprised if you don't come to realize you already know some ELO.

Never 'Elo', always E - L - O! My favourite band, and you happen to have started with one of my Top 10 songs of all time. It reminds me of my days at University, travelling the length of the UK on a student rail card. In reality it was always the last train FROM London that we had to catch. I'm not sure it's really 'disco' - I never thought of it that way until I started watching reaction videos. Shangri-La Telephone Line (the opening to which is my ring tone) Concerto For A Rainy Day (which ends with the big hit 'Mr Blue Sky') Sweet Talkin' Woman Can't Get It Out Of My Head All Over The World Yours Truly 2095 Ticket To The Moon It's seriously hard to think of a bad song - Jeff Lynne is often described as a genius and it's so true. Funnily enough, I've never seen them live. Had a ticket for the 2020 tour, which never happened, obviously, and sadly they haven't toured since. I guess Jeff is getting on, as are all those we enjoyed from the 70s and 80s. He has an OBE but I really do think a knighthood is long overdue. Do pick out a song to listen to/watch from the Wembley concert in 2017. It's not the original line-up but, well, ELO was always about Jeff Lynne.

You just fell into the ELO Rabbit Hole, enjoy the trip. Try Concerto for a Rainy Day which consists of multiple songs. Rollover Beethoven which brought them to fame back in the early 70's.
