Harmonies can make a boring song good, and a good song great. One of the reasons why No Villains has been a favorite fnf song for me is because of all the intertwining melodies that play throughout almost the entire song, it's all so fun to listen to

I’ve always been a huge fan of composing and am recently composing my pice for my music final this year. I really appreciate such simplification that really helps with our lives. As a fan of classical composing, I’m fascinated by how a composer and explain without using any terminologies that to me might be necessary in order to explain something. Great work putting these in to words and conveying to a wider audience that one can enjoy without even knowing any basic music theory at all whatsoever. Keep your longest solo ever ringing, as it’ll truly be the long I’ve ever heard. 😉

This is definitely useful for Ableton. I do need a tutorial on how to make FNF chromatic notes on Ableton slide using the 'Note Expression' button which can make the notes slide to different pitches, most of time for trying to slide it wouldn't work, or the sliding sounding off. All of the previous tutorials on it were either using an older Ableton (like Ableton 10) or just weren't very clear.

This is definitely helpful for music I'm making currently! I have one question though, are there any other intervals that work well at least most of the time like fifths or sixths?
@longestsoloever
2 жыл бұрын
Yes! 6ths are just 3rds after displacing them by an octave (the BF harmony at the end is a 6th) 4ths and 5ths can work *very* sparingly. They give kind of a robotic effect

Excellent tutorial! It's flexible enough to be useful, while skipping over a ton of material to keep it a nice consumable length. I'm a big fan of "do straight thirds and nudge it if it's wrong", it's easy enough to do on-the-spot when singing too!

At 14:30 you say octaves don’t effect harmony, in most cases. What cases would it effect harmonies in?
@longestsoloever
2 жыл бұрын
So 4ths are just octave-displaced 5ths, and vice versa. Parallel 4ths (two notes in 4th harmony in a row) is a little more palatable than parallel 5ths. Also, you can get away with closer intervals in higher octaves than lower octaves. 3rds don’t really work in the bass range, but in really high ranges you can even make 2nds work in the right context
@jaymzmusic_
2 жыл бұрын
@@longestsoloever that makes total sense. My “Advanced 18th-19th Century Western Music Theory” class made sure that I created a habit of avoiding parallel fifths like the devil (or as my theory teacher would say, “like the tritone”)
