I'm writing two comments on this for algorithm purposes because topics of neurodivergence need to be more seen. We gotta normalize this stuff!

I always love seeing these long-form, in-depth discussions of neurodivergence because they make me feel seen, and I hope this comment makes you feel seen. I'm diagnosed with autism and "peer reviewed" for ADHD and I found a lot of cool coping mechanisms here! Massively appreciate it!

Frogs are expensive, energy-wise. COSIGN! My 2022 'routine' so far involves gathering momentum from taking care of the cat, drinking water, thinking in bed before sweeping the phone notifications, and brushing my teeth. Doing well so far!

Yes for throwing out being perfect! Life is a mess. Making and keeping friends is difficult, especially since 2020, for some reason... I am so glad that you have found the writing community and that you have extroverted friends who keep you engaged. Everyone needs one or two to drag us introverts out to places.

I recently found out that I have inattentive type ADHD and while it has helped me understand my coping techniques and struggles, it's also given me this opportunity to learn about what works for other people that think more like me and find new things to try! I loved this video and think we need more content like this!

My water tip: try different delivery systems. I am horrible about remembering to drink water. I am also sometimes clumsy with normal cups. But camelback spouts are kind of stimmy for me and I can stay hydrated if I have one of those around. The con is that they are harder to keep clean than cups are. When it comes to making friends, I have found that it is easier with other ND folks. I was diagnosed less than a year ago at age 29. But even before that, my friend group was almost exclusively people who were part of at least one marginalized group. I have cis/het white NT abled xtian friends, but they are in the extreme minority and they are not my closest friends. Also, you can combine the find your people approach with the find a social butterfly approach. ND extroverts are totally a thing. I'm autistic+ADHD and I'm perfectly happy to show up in a place where I don't know anybody. I've always been a social butterfly even if I don't socialize in a NT way. This comes with its own challenges that I refer to as the novelty effect where I become the spice of life for NTs to spectate, but in the right size doses, even that can be a win win since I am also an attention seeker. (I've made videos on both novelty effect and attention seeking if you are curious about that.) Being that beacon of weird in the room makes it possible for us NDs to find each other too. The NTs laugh at my humor and the NDs stick around to be actual friends. A slightly more off the wall social tip is to pick up social dancing when the pandemic situation allows that to be safe. I am most familiar with the Lindy Hop community, but I'm sure other dances will have similarities. This might sound like a weird tip, but hear me out. Partner dancing toes the line between a crowd activity and a one on one activity. You are IN a crowd, but you are dancing WITH just one partner at a time. That interaction has a defined start and end (start of a dance and end of a dance) and then you interact with someone else. You can dance multiple songs with the same person... or not. You can establish a rapport with people one on one that you bring into group interactions chatting with friends off the dance floor. And local Lindy Hop communities often have etiquette rules explicitly posted on their website so you know how to behave and expect others to behave. Plus, social dancing ticks two boxes with one activity: socializing and exercising. And since everyone is moving, physical stimming is less noticeable, making it more comfortable to skip masking it.

I'm so glad you are sharing your experience. I think you are wonderful for being open. I relate to you so much here. Also, thank you for the definitions and talking about Autism Speaks. I actually didn't know how bad they were until recently. I hope that you gain more comfort and friendships from this community - I'm not exactly sure how to word that better without it becoming kind of awkward. Like, I want you to find happiness, goodness, and hope you find it here. Yeah, sure, I'm a writer. Yes! 100% You is what we need! We all need extroverts to pull us into the light kicking and screaming. 😅

Thank you for this. I appreciate you and this deep dive into this topic. 💜 Side note, I appreciate the information about using the term Asperger’s. I have used that term as recently as last fall when speaking about my ex and friend who is on the spectrum. Thank you for that head’s up. My ex was also diagnosed at 39 so I think lots of folks get diagnosed later. You’re stuck with me. I didn’t really give you the choice, I just said, “oh I love you, we’re friends now!” I’m sorry that you’re working through past traumas regarding relationships. I’m so sorry. One of the things I love about you is your ability to share things that others keep hidden. I admire your strength and strong sense of self. Keep being amazing.

How did I never notice Barney and Baby Bop before? My sister was Barney obsessed and I went to HS with an actor from the show. The flash fiction thing works for me, but I always say your mileage may vary. Keep me posted on how it works for you.

You are welcome! Thank you for listening. I appreciate your friendship more than you know! Yes, because of the shift away from functioning labels and the thought that autism only affects white males a lot more people are realizing they're autistic and being diagnosed. Getting my diagnosis/realizing I was autistic has definitely helped with my sense of self, so it's still a work in progress! 😀

Thanks for these great tips and advice! I am still trying to find a planner system/routine that will work for me. I like the idea creating a routine like a college course schedule! Alaina from the channel The Organized Money mentioned having four time blocks in her video about batching tasks! I am not a writer but find live videos helpful! For example, your lives, Alaina live videos , PlanwithLaken live videos about goals, and JashiiCorrin live journal videos!

is it possible to relate to just about every single thing you said about autism/adhd without *being* autistic/adhd? bc... 🙃 well... I do know I'm undiagnosed ocd, but man you were hitting the nail on the head for me. perhaps I should talk with my doctor about it at some point 😬😅 anyway awesome video. I have all sorts of problems keeping friends, much less writer friends, which gets in the way of productive, polished writing. every writer I've ever heard give advice on how to find betas, arc readers, etc., was "hit up your friends," i.e., Twitter, IG, YT, etc. followers! which I don't have bc x, y, z. and etc. anyway. if you are interested, I'd love to be writer friends with you. :) I love your channel and have been watching for a while! think you're dope! if not, that's also awesome, I'll still support ya :) now back to watching the vid!

I mean anything is possible but I’d bring it up to a therapist lol. There all a lot of online assessments available that the same ones a lot of doctors use in the formal assessment. In the autistic and adhd communities the majority of us consider self diagnosis valid. Not from one quiz or Video of course but usually months or even years of personal research. So if you relate I’d definitely look into it! Embrace Autism is a good website to start for that. I’d love to be writer friends! I’m glad you enjoy my channel! Thanks for the support! I appreciate it.
