Do Fair Housing Laws only apply to tenants or home purchasers? Single family home, owner has no other rental properties. The home is going up for sale once the tenant vacates. We could not come to an agreement to sell the property to the tenant due to the tenant acting in bad faith during discussions by not making proper disclosures. Now facing eviction for multiple material breaches of the lease. Now an attorney representing the tenant in eviction is threatening to file a discrimination claim to stall eviction claiming we would not negotiate to sell the home due to his fiancee being a minority. Well, my spouse is the same minority and landlord. We had no problems trying to sell the property to the tenant, but the minority fiancee was never involved in any conversations and her name was never mentioned nor was it listed in a purchase agreement. Tenant is a white male, fiancee is living in the property and listed on the lease. There is no basis for this complaint.

Short version: -If you try to collect rent, or enforce the rental contract in any way, it's housing discrimination!!!! -And there are liberal lawyers who will represent you, for free, to sue the evil landlord!!! Wait, why is it so hard to find a place to rent?
