Oh, you're there OK maybe not so cold winter as we get here up in Finland then and the dangerous aspect of the cold water is less to worry about.😊 We go on ice with different sleds when it freezes. It's just to jump on and go, easy compared to the summer. Of course there are other things to think about regarding safety but it's nice as long as temperature don't go much below -10 degrees celsius. We had a period of -30 and the ice last winter and the ice got great. In the spring we could go everywhere🎉Is it a 120 Fox you got? It could carry a ~8 sqm. 😉

Yeah we can windsurf all year round. It was probably about 12 degrees the other day. Ice sailing/windsurfing looks like so much fun. Where I am nothing ever freezes. It was -1 the other morning and that is about as cold as it gets. The Fox is 140 litres, my first board. It will be my light to moderate wind board from now on.

Sounds great. 👌You got the same boardsetup as one of us here then. I have the 105fox as medium board aswell. Great in the chop we have.🤙

Sorry to say that looks like a complete disaster but well done considering a SUP board & paddle would be the better gear to go out with. A little frustrated to the similar situation around now with no wind att all, sorry for negative comment but 😂Wait until the conditions are right, you need more wind for this and for the Fox also seen in other videos. Put on a bigger sail in a little more wind with the fox if you got one, I dont know what sizes and what you're on but looks small. You must get hooked in & in to the straps and magic will start to happen when you do it enough and catapult some times. Sooner or later you will get there. Choose the right gear for the conditions is important and could even be dangerous going with too small stuff if it's not windy enough. It's not cold now but could be depending on where and when on the planet you go out. You're right on doing well considering low wind and first try on that. Keep it up and look for white horses on the water, then go and that thing will be great companion with the sail you got.💪so will the fox also be when there's enough wind.

Hey there. Thanks for the comment. I know exactly what you are saying. I did get easier as the wind got up towards the end of the session. It's winter here in New Zealand so quite cold. I was using a 5.3 sm sail. I was being a little conservative as it was a new board for me and wasn't too worried if I was underpowered. Also the forecast was for 35 knots in the afternoon and it did really kick in just after our session. A 6 metre probably would have been better. The good thing about where we sail is that at low tide it is shallow 100 metres from the shore line so I was only taking short tacks out knowing if I got into trouble I could walk in. I'm looking forward to my next opportunity on the small board as I felt I have already learnt a lot on it. I'm sure it will also make getting back onto the Fox much easier. Cheers.

Nice board! It's a bit trickier with smaller board.

It certainly is but I was quite surprised that I did as well as I did. I was expecting a complete disaster.

@@JABigburls I think we have the same boards. You have a 140 Fox and a 105 Dyno. Is that correct?

@@dela1968 Yes that is true. They have been serving great in all conditions we have here. But still learning 😄

I'm going to have to disagree with your instructor and say that your front foot should start tight up against the mast foot from behind, NOT in front of it. Really we only go around the front when fast tacking (or doing a sketchy uphaul!). Modern sails should give you enough 'drive' (forward force) to keep the mast foot down in even the lightest winds. You can think of the mast foot as the 'heart' of the entire board rig package, by placing your foot tight to it you are completely connected as you start to get moving - but see also my comment on your other video! Congratulations on your new board - it will highlight any poor technique, and force you to improve rapidly!

Cheers Robert. Putting my foot in front of the mast base was working when the wind was lighter but as you can see in my other video, not so good when it's windier. I can see that now after watching the other video. You are right about the smaller board highlighting any bad technique. It's so much easier on the 140 litre board now.
