It is so great to see a post from the great Dr. Mills after all this time! My guess would be a scout wasp found a food source (such as sap from the tree above) and relayed that information to the rest of the hive resulting in a nest close to the nutrient source. Right or wrong I wish you the best of luck removing it, my wife and I look forward to your follow up video clarifying why they moved in

Thanks Rusty. The cold will remove the nest in the next couple of months so I'm not worried about that. So far they have completely ignored us too. Without giving away the answer yet, I'll just say that you could be close to the answer. Cheers

@@AshleyMillsTube I think I figured it out, there seemed to be a smaller type of bug in the leaves that might be gnats or some type of fly and the wasps are probably eating them for food.
