Flayon’s example of the guy scalping ps5s to support his family reminded me of the main guy who was scalping ps5s during the shortages. He was trying to guilt trip people by saying how him scalping was a good thing so he can get his daughter presents for christmas. I believe his quote was along the lines of “your child may not get their number 1 present on their list but if I didn’t do this then my daughter would have no presents on Christmas.”

Thanks for giving a massive smile at the start of the work week guys! I think I played on the Nintendo Gateway back in 2000. I took a trip from Florida to Cambodia. During the flights from LA to Tokyo to Malaysia and back, the planes had the nintendo games on it. I ended up playing Ninja Gaiden, Link to the Past and Mario 1-3 on it. I got mad cause the pilot announcements kept pausing the game lmao. Still need to beat Link to the Past.

Thanks for the podcast guys!! I think the three member format worked really really well this week, the discussion flowed natural and easy. Seeing everybody’s unique opinions on gaming as a medium is super interesting. Normie Bettel, my kamioshi… I hope he picks up Wind Waker as I think he’ll vibe with it. I didn’t know any of Flayon’s picks, but I do remember having my fair share of licensed tie-in games and shovelware that I loved dearly as a kid. The feeling of sitting in a deranged discord call with the boys and googling any random bullshit that comes to mind was immaculate, keep it up in the future! OtsuNTR!!

Also, a question: what songs have you guys listened to that have constantly remained a favorite? Like you first listened to it and it's just stuck with you since then.

Im with Bettel where I dont enjoy using mods. Mods that change the gameplay experience always break the carefully planned balance that the developers had in mind when they created the game. The only mods I may use are visual mods or bug fix mods. For example when I played RE4 remake i played with Ada in her red dress, and Ashley with a much more period accurate emo outfit and better emo hair By the way, what kind of damn rich kid was flayon to be taking enough flights that he's familiar with this obscure plain and hotel exclusive system that no one else knows

Regarding the mods thing, I agree on the part where you have to finish the base game before you start modding, since once you mod first, it just ruins your experience when you go back to base vanilla... but also with mods, it adds SO MUCH more to the game's longevity. Skyrim, Zomboid, MC and classic L4D2 are pretty much STILL going strong years after their release and even until now... L4D2 even surpassed its own 'spiritual successor' B4B, and that says a lot about L4D's longevity, partly due to it being moddable. Also, pretty sure Bettel is just getting old. I feel the same way about taking on games now unless they're indie because a lot of those are pretty fun short experiences, some free and some surprisingly replayable and doesn't cost a kidney to buy.

Every episode i laugh so much. NTR is great! Btw i would like to point out that the Sun will never explode. It is simply not massive enough, it needs to be several times more massive to do so. Instead the Sun will gradually shed its layers, and turn into a planetary nebula with a white dwarf at the center. Although before doing this it will have absorbed the Earth during its red giant phase, so i still don't think going that far into the future is a good idea.

I had Alien3 on the Game Boy. Flayon was right. That's the most god damn confusing thing ever. It was a weird puzzle Metroidvania game where every obstacle killed you instantly and you had no saves. And then there was the fucking ventilation shaft maze where you just got sucked into a fan from offscreen and died.

I actually agree with Bettel's mod take to an extent; I don't think a game's mods should be considered when asked if a game is good, but I do think mods add a layer of customization to games if you want them. In my head, modded games are basically a separate game from the original game, even if I am the type to usually go with "Vanilla +" style mods.

I kinda get how Bettel feels about mods, and similarly I also can't really explain it. I'm not completely against them, but the best I can say is that I'd prefer to play the game "as-is" and see what the devs intended before I start changing things around. Also, while I've never played any of the licensed games Flayon mentioned (I did play Sonic Battle), there were several movie tie-in games I was particularly fond of. For example, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Eragon on GBA, and Spider-Man 2 on PSP. I don't remember if any of them were good, but I did enjoy playing them.
