Hopefully it is as well built as it looks. Each pair of wheels looks like it can steer like asipods on big ships. Interesting and gives it a small turning circle for a huge vehicle.

What good is a product that is SO high quality that costs the customer SO much which he can't afford? There are SOO many cases where companies enthusiastically produce high quality products and sell for cheap, Germans especially. Where are they now?? BANKRUPT. Look at Adam Audio for example, one the worlds best professional speaker manufacturers. those wheels are way smaller than those usual dumptrucks, so easier to handle. And in the midle of the vehicle is a small "alley"where you can walk through, so there's enough room to change a wheel. And i'm sure that they have a special made kart to move the wheels on their place, so it's just a simple job. Those trucks need to drive 24/7, so i'm sure they did find a way to change it quickly because those machines cost milions, so there's no room for experimenting just for the fun of it.

i really like this way of making a big dump truck you got 16 wheels instead of 6 and can then lower the ground pressure and put a lot more traction on the ground since you got more rubber on the ground and you can make it lower so it don't tip over so easily all in all a really great idea i think

If the driver is doing his job like he's paid to do they don't tip over. Lower the ground pressure? why would that be needed? In 30+ years of mining I've never seen an issue with fully loaded trucks on the haul roads. Ask yourself this, how do they change a flat on the inner tires on the middle two axles. And 16 tires verses 6 equals 2.666 times more likely to get a flat so that's inevitably more downtime just in tire repairs and changes. All wheel steering, that's going to be a huge number of parts to keep maintained and replaced when they wear out. And how many of these trucks were shown in the video? It looks to me like it's a single prototype that wasn't well thought out. Even the dump box was designed too short since rock from the load being dumped on a flat area is going to be cutting the hell out of those rear tires. I don't know any experienced miner that wouldn't find the same obvious issues with it that I did. I'd bet there's dozens more issues the video doesn't show. Even the center cab position is a poor design flaw since it removes the safety of left hand cabs and reversed direction of travel in most mines today to keep the drivers as far from an impact they can get them in case of a collision between two trucks.

With this design you multiply the possibility of failure x three. The more moving parts the more wear and tear and failure. maintenance and cost of replacements. Quality is not a hallmark of anything china built and this is most likely more of the same.
@turningpoint6643
4 жыл бұрын
@Dr Moriarty A good point about the engineering, manufacturing, operation and maintenance being directly related equipment downtime and your quite correct, however you neglected one tiny detail, as the parts count goes up the maintenance costs do as well. A conventional haul truck normally has 6 tires, this one has 16, therefore it's 2.666 times more likely to have tire issues, and that inevitably results in more downtime. More parts = more costs. I've spent 30 + years as an open pit miner and 50 as an equipment operator. What are YOUR credentials?

And from experience there is nothing more tiresome then waiting for the unloader to climb out and slowly make it's way back...however to be fair to Canadian and American mining trucks, they are working in MUCH steeper pits then the ones shown in this video. Still pretty neat though!

Here's what I noticed. Tell me if I'm on to something. I believe this truck is weak - underpowered. I believe the driver floored from the dead stop position. He took off from the loading spot like a bag out of hell. At first I thought the video was sped up but the digger doesn't seem to change rotational speed. So anyway, the driver floors it because he knows gōddamned well that he'll barely make it up that slight incline with a full load - and the last thing an employee of Mother China wants to do is make Mother China and its latest, greatest technology look bad. The whole point of making not just this video but of all their technological advance videos is to both trick the Chinese and foreign populaces that they are leading on the technological front, when in fact their products are engineering messes. That's what I get from this video. Just look at how fast the truck is going when it leaves the loading spot and then look at how much it slows down on the hill. If that hill was twice as long, I'm not sure the truck would have made it (or if it was driving twice as slow).

***** Sorry for delay. The basic concept of the Belaz is very good, having the 4 wheel-motors and pivoting axles to steer; but the wheel base is slightly too short and the huge front overhang is much too big and bulky. The engines/generator unit should be mounted parallel (fore and aft) and tucked further back under the body, closer to the front axle, to reduce overhanging weight. The the two radiators should be at the front facing forwards and next to each other. This would allow the front to be more tapered, to give a more traditional, streamlined appearance (to imply speed). The engine/generator/radiator units should be mounted on separate frames (parallel to each other) and releasable, so that they can be slid out frontwards, to make replacement easy. Functionality is vital but looks are also very important these days. What do you think of it and this Chinese one?

I bet if you need to change the inner wheel, the truck can lift it self higher up on the other wheels, then turn that bogie/wheel set all the way around. I do like that solution, it give you a more stable platform that can handle the massive weight, another advantage is that the wheels are smaller, making them far easier to change than those monster wheels other dump trucks have, where you need specialized equipment on everything, making it far more expensive.

You know Chinese products very well. Build cheap, built quick, virtually no quality specifications, no safety goggles for workers using grinders, stolen technology, looks good for 30 seconds and then breaks as soon as it has to do real work. Cutting corners and doing things on the cheap is the Chinese way, it is an indoctrination that the whole country lives by. The West does not have to worry that China will rise up and be a super-power anytime soon, the mentality and attitude of quality workmanship simply does not exist. So yes they can steal technology and copy designs, but they still build cheap shit. Perhaps in two or three generations, the work attitude might change, but until then, the West will still be the masters of inventiveness because we believe in capitalism, treasure individualism, encourage entrepreneurs, reward inventors, and know the value of quality craftsmanship.
