The elbow guides the hand. The hand should not lead the elbow.
Basic (and perhaps useless-looking to the uninitiated) positions and exercises teach us elbow discipline.
First we learn to control our own elbows, so that we can then learn to control our opponent's elbows.

Some people have asked why I wear a facemask when pair-work with my students.
The answer is simple, it is a precaution against airborne illnesses such as the common cold, influenza and Covid.
I protect my students in many ways. For example:
- I vacuum and mop the floor before each class.
- I sanitise the equipment (bag, dummy, resistance bands, etc) before each class.
- I lay down a foam floor covering when we practise anything that might involve going to the floor.
- I sanitise that foam flooring after each use and before I store it away.
- The space is well-ventilated.
- There is an air-purifier with a HEPA filter running during the class.
- I am vaccinated against Covid and influenza.
- I test myself for Covid the night before the class (I tested positive once and cancelled the class).
- However, I do not require that my students also take a Covid test.
- I wear a facemask when doing partner drills with my students.
- However, I do not require that my students also wear facemasks.
None of this requires you, the viewer, to adopt these measures in your life.
They affect you not at all.
If my taking simple sanitary measures in my own class bothers you, move along, my channel and my videos are for those who are interested only in the technical points of Wuzuquan.
They are not for those who are only concerned with what I wear on my face or any other part of my body.
