In "Goodbye To All That," Robert Graves described a "trench periscope" that his mother had sent him while at the front. A German bullet destroyed it and he sent it home as sort of a "gee whiz" thing. His mother took it back to whatever store (Harrod's?) she'd gotten it and "made them give her another."

This is the only other one that I have seen beside's the one that I own. Mine is in much better shape for the glass is still clear as day it was made on , right alone with the paint. The only thing is that you are using it wrong, turn it 90 degrees to get the Full sight ,plus the hood will kill the sun flash.

I have my Great Grandfather's 18 yr old son's (US Infantry) Polished WWI signal mirror, canvas case AND the telegram informing my Great Grandfather his son had been killed in WWI. The REAL SAD part, the telegram's date, Oct. 4, 1918, the date Germany officially filed a lawsuit for peace, essentially requesting an end to the war, official Armistice was Nov. 11th, my great uncle was killed in last few days of war.

Neat gadget. Looks like the individual or family would buy rather than an issued item.
