You're right about a lot of that (like how bad Sami's booking has been since Wrestlemania), but the company doesn't always have the ability to turn somebody heel. Sami wasn't just a face leading up to Wrestlemania; he was the biggest babyface in the company, and he was an underdog, and he was practically brand-new as a face. The crowd was going to cheer anything he did. If you put Sami Zayn against Cody Rhodes for the title at Wrestlemania, that's the end of Cody's push. Make that crowd choose between Sami and Cody, and they'd pick Sami without hesitating. And, god forbid, if Cody WON? They'd never forgive him.

I agree with both sides here in this comment thread. Because while Wrestling itself has simplicity due to the fact that it is a fictitious contest, there is nuance with how you depict who wins within that context because the live and earnest reaction of the crowd is so important. Dude WWE just gives people what they want. They always have. Think about it, people loved Hogan. Couldn't get enough of the guy, right? So he beats everyone and stays on top for years and years. What's that you say? Some fans were getting tired of that? Well he's still bringing in millions! Not until the money tree stops bearing fruit will they stop beating a dead horse. Same with every other "top guy" that's been shoved upon the wrestling fandom. HHH, Cena, Brock, now Roman. If he wouldn't have left to pursue other interests then Rock would probably have seen the same fate. If Stone Cold hadn't walked away then I guarantee you that we'd have had so many years of him on top that his legacy would be totally different today. He left us wanting more and we are better off for it. They give the general audience exactly what they want to see, as in, they put the guy on top who they see as the top draw and they keep him there until business is shit, then they start looking for a different direction. Roman is exactly where they've wanted him from the beginning. People didn't buy him for years and wanted WWE to stop shoving him down their throats. All of the sudden he's in a hot storyline and I am sure that people within the organization are like "ha! See I told you he was money!" Now he's for sure not going anywhere for a good long time. Cody isn't the next top guy. Cody was simply the next monster for Roman to slay. I hope I'm wrong, but I won't be surprised when he's holding down the upper midcard this time next year. Maybe he'll get to be a one week transitional champ in another Roman storyline at some point but that's the best you can hope for.

Probably winning Money in the Bank and then cashing in amidst the Bloodline completely imploding.

I guess the question is: is wrestling, soap, opera or comic books? In soap opera, the arcs are more memorable than the endings. And while wrestling isn't wrestling, it sometimes has to pretend to be. The unique simulation aspect of wrestling behooves it to occasionally undercut its own narrative with sports-like randomness, maybe?

After Cody’s loss, I’ve become incredibly disenchanted with the WWE. I think the story is piss poor, I think they wrote Roman’s championship into a brick wall for the sake of a 1000 day title reign for a belt no one cares about, and I think the storyline is so bad that the creation of a new belt is basically slapping a bandaid on a severed wound, but the truth is, it goes so much deeper. I was really upset about Cody’s loss, and my wife (who isn’t really a wrestling fan) said “Well, won’t Cody just win the next time?” and I explained to her “It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter if he wins on Raw, at Backlash, Night of Champions, or even Summerslam. Mania was special, and they just blew it. If they blew it at Mania, why should I put any faith in the company, or the story telling process, that they wont just screw it up again?” I don’t have an answer to that. WWE didn’t just drop the ball this time. They dropped it, popped it, then tried to convince a group of inner city youths into a game of shirts bs skins with a makeshift football.

Ah, but that’s right. You’re not talking about the WWE Championship. You’re talking about the Universal, where Roman will still need to hold that belt for roughly another 1,800 days to even come close. So, if you want to watch a man stomp around yelling “acknowledge meeee” for another five years, then have I got another wrestling show for you! Also, how does my disenchantment with WWE mean that I originally only watched WWE? I do AEW, Impact, MLW, NJPW, WXW, dabble a bit in the indies (West Coast primarily), and would have continued to do so whether WWE currently sucked or not. So, long story short, your definition of “getting what you want” has a fair amount of holes in it.

Any company that pulls that kind of shit is diseased, rotten to the core. There's no saving it. I just want to see the whole operation crash and burn. god, I made a joke on a message board about how they should just make a new belt and let the Bloodline be "super eternal champions 4 life". I didn't know they actually sort of did it. I'm not sure how anyone cares enough to be angry at this point. It's been very clear for a very long time now that there was no landing trajectory and that they're just running up (out?) the clock to reach some arbitrary number. As far as the storytelling, I'm not sure "serialized" is even the right term. All WWE does (especially with Roman Reigns) is just: there's a thing and then there's not a thing. They constantly hit the reset button on any potential character development and occasionally add and remove some set dressing. Nothing compounds or shifts. Nothing builds. The seeds of potential collapse are merely hinted at and then forgotten. They've made him an invincible heel. It's incredibly boring and it's making the product as a whole worse by proxy. But most WWE fans (especially on Reddit) eat this shit up and never want it to end.

As for Sami, I think it was all over for him the second he left the group and teamed up with Kevin Owens. The whole thing fell flat for me. I absolutely agree, but I do wish I was more surprised that this is happening. This is par for the course in WWE. There is no actual cohesive creative vision in WWE because Vince McMahon isn't a sane or reasonable man. Vince McMahon is truly a monster who has seemingly gone out of his way to damage the economic stability of the entire medium that his company leads, all while committing or covering up various financial, violent, or sexual crimes committed by him and his entourage. The WWE always fails when Vince is in charge, and has been consistently failing like this for almost 2 decades now. Triple H understands pro wrestling in a modern context the way very few people do, which is why his time in WWE creative produced some of the best matches, storylines, and overall product content OF ALL TIME. Most of the Attitude Era was not as good as NXT 2015-2018, most Ruthless Aggression shows are not as good as a 2022 Smackdown. But all of that goes away now, because Vince McMahon is a legitimate psychotic criminal. He would rather lose money creating a terrible show on purpose just so everyone knows its HIS show. WWE isn't for us, its for Vince. He doesn't like good wrestling, he likes shitty wrestling, but he knows we don't like what he likes. He's openly said so. So his solution? Literally do everything exactly the same as 30 years ago. He doesn't care about anything, he doesn't care about the money, WWE made more money during covid than in any other year of their existence. The fact that WWE was even mildly good these past 2 years is astonishing, but now it all goes away. As it always does. WWE will never fully change without the death of Vince McMahon.

And they scheduled the match and the possibility of the best ending to a perfect story up to that point could have happened…… but because soooooo many people were crying about Cody and blaw blaw blaw!!! They changed their mind and ruined the whole Bloodline storyline in 1 PPV!!! Oh and I’ve heard it all, “you’re just negative” and “just because your favorite didn’t win, that doesn’t mean WWE doesn’t know what their doing” and the dumbest one “WWE knows what their doing and they never just trash a storyline out of nowhere”….. First off, he wasn’t my favorite! And honestly, a month after that PPV he was just a joke!!! And secondly, yeah…. WWE doesn’t toss out a story?!? The Bloodline storyline was every week and about 50-55% of Smackdown each week for over a year (yes, it’s been going longer than that! But not as high of a percentage)!!! And about 3 weeks after the PPV I’m talking about, The Bloodline story was gone! Done! There was NOTHING covering that story for over 4 months! ZERO!!! And then very little at Royal Rumble this year and very little for the next month after that! And then they were trying their hardest to rush a “dead story” back to life and make it relevant before this year’s disappointing WM40!!! And yes, there were a few good matches in the “2 NIGHT EVENT”! But most was either trash, repeats, backpedaling or just rushed!!! But that’s a whole different story!

1:11- Yes, most….. but not all! (There are probably a lot that I’ve never read or care to read but) I’ll give you 1 example that I know unless you live in a bubble that helps you just completely ignore anything you don’t like or things that you don’t want to be true, should know! The Walking Dead!!! And the show kinda applies…. a bit… but I’m mainly talking about the comic book (which in my opinion, was better than the show for a longer period of time!?! But also turned into sh!t after awhile)!!!

1:57- For you! Well for you and the other “fans” that somehow jumped on the Cody bandwagon and the “finish the story” BS that still to this day I am still sticking to, never made any sense whatsoever!!! And I’m starting to realize, you’re not here to talk about the actual event “Backlash”………. Too bad! I’m 99% certain the rest of this will be no different from what all the other “fan” KZitemrs have already said because someone else said it because someone else said it!!!

Yeah……… so, I’m definitely NOT on any of the pages you apparently are on!?! I’m pretty sure you’re not even on the same book as me but are still trying to tell me the title of your book is the same as mine!?! So, I might check to see what else you have made videos about…… but that’s about it (which is kinda disappointing……. Mainly because some things you said made it almost seem like how you think was outside the circle of what’s called normal….. but instead, you are definitely still inside that circle! Just on the opposite side of it then I am)!!! But I wish you the best of luck with whatever and have a good day!!!

Wrestling in itself is stuck in a state of spinning it’s wheels. It feels like we are all waiting… but we’re not sure what for exactly. Until then it’s just the same over and over and over again. Also why the fuck did the bury the Demon persona Again???? So many fucking questions…

Cody's "finish the story" crap was the greatest bit of gaslighting I have ever seen wwe do to their fans. wwe actually managed to convince people that Cody had any "story" to begin with since his little rivalry with Seth "Seth Rollins" Rollins ended. People kept acting like his "story" wasn't just Cody barely interacting with the bloodline, derailing Samy's already in-progress story before it had concluded, talking about "mah daddy" every promo like the rich out of touch nepo baby his character has become, being handed a # 30 rumble spot for just existing and being treated like this big time super hero when even Super Cena felt more authentic than Cody's current "wwegenericbabyface.exe" schtick. Somehow, wwe got their fans to buy into and get excited by their piss-poor, low effort storytelling, hook, line, sinker. And they still managed to fuck it all up and piss off all their fans. It takes talent to fuck everything up the way wwe has for over 30 years. At this point people have obly themselves to be angry at when so much other good wrestling exists out there in the world. There is no excuse to watch wwe's load of crap every week. Watch pro wrestling. Fuck wwe.

I think you're being too hard on wwe, It's always been like this they have up times and they have down times. The Fact you ain't saying this about Aew who's only ever had one good storyline (MJF, which they killed by bringing in the firm). Tells me you want wwe to be bad so it is, (Kinda like avatar 2). Personally I think wwe is gonna be stronger than ever once omos wins the wwe heavily weighted belt and drops it to Cody in 4 months. Personally I think Zane-O have plenty of time to do stuff. Give Bloodline a true ending or new member and that'll be after Backlash. When it comes to Cody I think Brock I'd seriously telling the higher ups he's leaving so they probably wanted to get a match with the two of them for future reference like Austin Theory (universal champ by end of '23) vs Cena at WrestleMania.

You can never be "too hard" on a company as scummy as wwe. A promotion that has ruined more careers and crushed more dreams than it has ever made stars. wwe has been shitting on fans for 30 years now. They deserve every drop of criticism and more.
