Major Paul Harrington flies an Aeronca L3 for the first time since 1943. An artillery observation pilot with the 62nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion in World War Two (WWII), he lands plane after 45 years since last piloting. Maj. Paul Harrington, Ret. was attached to the 62nd AFA Bn in Europe. He fought in the Hurtgen Forest, Battle of the Bulge, Crossing the Rhine at Remagen, and the crossing of Germany and Czechoslavikia with Patton and the Third Army. He flew a Piper Cub L4 during the war. His longest day was flying dawn to dusk on December 17, 1944 when his spotter took out a Panzer tank column on a day when officially no planes were flying. "We had many more targets of opportunity, he said. His commander said they directed fire for over 300 artillery guns that day.
"I never flew from the back seat." and "They had the idle set a little too high." were his comments.
