Here’s our entry for the 2024 WXPN 24-hour songwriting contest. We had 24 hrs to write a song with the the prompt SUMMERTIME. We only had 6 hours together today to write, but it was fun to work out a whole song so quickly. Hope you like it!

Lyrics:
A Single Day
Oh my God, I think we’ll make it
6 AM and the sun is shining
Thinks that I could finally leave my bed and see if I’m still really
Here is where I’m starting over,
Thawing out and getting sober
Wondering why I settled so damn far
From the equator and I
Hold my breath for summertime
When stars are brighter
Days are longer
Skin is softer
Laughs are louder
I forgot that fireflies exist
Watermelon, lemonade,
Ferris wheels, and memories made
This time I won’t waste a single day
Oh my God, I just remembered
Haven’t felt this way since last September
Think that I might sit outside and
Watch the lightning stretch across the
Nights and days are all the same
In the summertime we can go and play
We can let our worries fade away
And settle them another day
I hold my breath. It’s summertime.
When stars are brighter
Days are longer
Skin is softer
Laughs are louder
I forgot that fireflies exist
Watermelon, lemonade,
Ferris wheels, and memories made
This time I won’t waste a single day
A single day.
