Wyoming is better above 8,000 feet.
Having spent many nights sleeping on the ground along various BDR routes over the last decade, two now-retired gentlemen decide to take a fresh, refined approach to the Wyoming BDR. Sleeping in beds, cooked-to-order dinners, hot showers, and riding just the high-elevation segments of the route. Everything improves with elevation in Wyoming, with 8000 feet being around the minimum joyful level.
In early June we rode a little under half the BDR route, substituting a beautiful segment up the spine of the Big Horn Mountains for the Red Desert. There was lots of snow around, but never anything to block our progress. We encountered a couple locked gates on the route at the north end, both easily worked around.
10/10, would go again.
