Unfortunately you can't do that connection (just plug in) on V3 & V4 & Pan II. Which location is hot (center) & ground (outside braided) on above?
@OpinionatedHorsewoman

i saw they have changed up the V3 and V4, not surprising, making improvements. Not sure what your question is, i didn't mess with anything but the antenna which was just the 1.

You know you can take the back panel off (like you did the bottom panel), right? This gives you more room to work and you don’t have to deal with the other antenna.

hahah I think that was me talking myself through the process, I tend to be repetitive when I am concentrating and attempting to be methodical. This was the second camera I modified in this manner, and I tend to be really cautious! I know the cameras are only $20 but I didn't want to accidentally ruin it. I have had a few requests to show strength, but one camera shows the signal in the app and one does not. However, they both have been absolutely perfect now, I no longer have the repeated dropping of signal. I truly has been a perfect hack for my needs. The 2 cameras hang on the side of metal buildings, which of course is why the signal was being blocked. Thanks so much for watching and your feedback.

Great video. I may have missed it but roughly how much will this increase the range on one of these? Just picked up a solar panel that was suggested in the wyze forums by someone and my only other concern is distance. Thanks!

embarrassed to say I've not tested it for the nerdy details, because I've been thrilled with how they've improved/solidified the connection to my mesh routers. The cams I hacked are way out on outbuildings and have to connect into the mesh wifi routers I have set up in those buildings (I have my place meshed out with 3 mesh routers). Where they used to show barely a signal (shown in the app) they now show FULL connection.

@@OpinionatedHorsewoman thanks, have a very long wooded driveway that sees a lot of wildlife so looking to put one out there to see what is going through and as an "early warning" system on who's driving in. I've been looking into the mesh situation but not sure its going to help me in this situation given my layout. Trying to reach out maybe 100-200' so this hack and the solar panel if it works may get me there.

@@RedDawn8488 Will depend on the strength of your router (and placement) and mesh systems. My main issue was I was hanging cameras on the side of metal-sided pole sheds. The metal really cuts into the wifi signal. I bought a really robust router (needed the upgrade anyway) that had good distance and then some good mesh add-ons and so far I'm thrilled. Be cautious with the solar panels you may end up with issues there, I have heard some mixed results depending on how you set it up. Planning to use a V2 or V3 or cam pan?
@RedDawn8488

@@OpinionatedHorsewoman yeah I'm hoping the solar panel does the trick but I've spent $29 in worst ways. I have several v2's and a pan but I need to flash the firmware back on it as it got corrupted when I was setting it up somehow. I'll probably play with both just to see if the solar panel will run both. Thinking a v3 for what I'm trying would be the cat's meow though.

@@RedDawn8488 I have 2 of my 3 V3 in use and they are really a step up from the V2 as far as that nighttime sensor! Haven't tried to see how far away from the router I can get them, they're supposed to have a stronger internal wifi antenna. Just haven't had time to set up cam #3 just yet.

Just curious how much range extension or quality of service this mod gave you?
@OpinionatedHorsewoman
3 жыл бұрын
Well, I don't have the tools to do a true test, but I would say that easily 75 feet, very likely more than that. I would need some better time, weather, and tools likely to really put it to the test. It definitely solved the problems I was having with 2 of my farthest cameras, they never disconnect now unless I do something like reboot my router, then I usually just have to power cycle my cameras (that's on Wyze, not on these antennas). I guess what I need is like a 150 foot extension cord and then I could really test it.

What's odd, is even with the same antenna as the V3, it still performs better (as far as connectivity goes). I've had to put antennas on all my V3s just to get then near the connectivity of my V2s...
